gas tank drain
I have a 1980 911 and need to drain the gas tank.Does any one know the size of the gas tank drain, the allen wrench size in mm.

How about just disconnecting the fuel pump hose?
Sorry do not know the size of the drain nut

22 mm allen wrench substitute.......

You need a 22 mm allen wrench or do what I did. Get a 7/8" bolt and 2 nuts as an alternative tool. A 7/8" bolt has a head that measures almost 22 mm. See pictures below. ![]() ![]() Tony |

Take your spark plug socket and insert a ratchet extension in the business end of the socket attach your ratchet and use the top of the spark plug socket to remove the gas tank plug (drain the gas out first ;-)

I highly recommend you pump out the fuel before you take the strainer out. No matter how little gas you have in the tank, you will get a lot more than you think you have.
If I recall correctly, a 3/4" wrench extention fits perfectly. Use a combination of sockets and racket to get it off. I just did this recently for a friend. Or you can doubke nut a 22mm bokt head like above, but if that strainer is in tight, you'll just spring the nuts. The new strainer should come with a seal... |
