1988 911 Coupe Electrical
Just bought a '88 911 Coupe and I'm having a blast with getting it cleaned up and straightened out. The previous owner had installed a Code Alarm car alarm and circa '89 cell phone. The car's wiring has me scratching my head. There are several wires out of the factory loom with plugs terminated, that aren't plugged in.
I'm trying to straighten out the wiring, remove the alarm and phone. One thing I need help on is with the deck lid light. The light is there and there is a black wire cut about 4-6 inches out of the light. I don't see where it runs to... where's the other end? Thanks, Chris ![]() |

Normally, if you disconnect the alarm the car won't start.
For the engine to run, without the alarm connected, the wiring harness needs 2 things: a ground to the DME and power to the alternator. To achieve this just add two jumpers to the alarm connector. Working from memory here: black to brown and red to blue/red (you might want to consult with a wiring diag!)

Post a pic of the engine lid light and severed wire.
The engine lid light is connected to the headlight switch and it will operate in running light and full on position. It is also connected to the left marker switch. +1 the after market is most likely connrected to the DME. simply pulling the alarm's module may not be enough. You may need to mend or reconnect where it was bypassed. Jim Oh yeah welcome to the Board!
