Second is I was expecting to hear the exhaust sound raspie (sp)and whiny..What muffler setup gets that sound? Tan, welcome to the forum. No, the stock muffler is not stainless and how do you get that raspy sound well, I went with SSi's and a two out stainless muffler. Take some pictures of your car and the exhaust system and post the pictures here. Oh, put where you are located in your user info.

Thanks,I bought a California repo (23 years) ,and Michigan(2 years in storage),so the guy I bought from had no info on the car,so Im pretty much trying to find out about the car by asking a million questions.I tried to trace the owners in California, but had no luck. The longer I drive this car the more I realize what "pure joy" is..hehe

Im pretty sure the stock Carrera muffler is stainless steel. Not all stainless stays clean and shiny, some develop a thin layer of oxidation (and are also magnetic)

I have a'74 backdate SSI header set-up from B&B into a Bursch single-out muffler. Very raspy with a nice high-strung cackle. Not cheap, but sounds GREAT!

Not sure what a broken lawnmower sounds like but...

Check out these clips. When you find one you like, read more about the setup.

Enjoy! The ultimate exhaust sound clip thread!

Go to a muffler shop and have them fab a turn down attachment to your cat. You want the attachment to mount on one of the tensioner bolts. Remove your muffler and you will get a crazy sound and lose alot of weight to boot.

May have to lower her once you do that.

Super Cheap Super Loud!

To test, just remove the muffler and use only the cat, if you like the sound get the exhaust tip made, 30-50 bucks

My buddy did this to his 87, it sounds amazing!
