Road Trips with pics
Greetings
In the last month I have had the opportunity to take a couple of small road trips, the first one solo around our beautiful state, and the second with my wife down the Oregon coast. My solo trip started by getting out of GarageTown and heading to the freeway with no particular direction in mind. I could have gone north into Seattle (bad choice on a Friday), east toward the Cascades, or south toward Portland. I immediately gave up the north option, the freeways were clogged, wasn't particularly thrilled about heading to the mountains in the rain, so I opted for south. The rain disappeared by Longview, Wa so I continued on to Vancouver, took a left and headed up the Columbia River gorge on the Washington side. Good road, not much traffic, and plenty of twisties to keep it interesting. Bonneville Dam was roaring as the BPA kept the water flow high: ![]() Hood River is home to a number of breweries so there was plenty reason to stay there for the night. ![]() Headed to Walla Walla for lunch then north to Spokane. The Palouse is beautiful this time of year; ![]() ![]() Spent the night in Colville with good friends then back on the road headed west. Lake Roosevelt : ![]() And on to Dry Falls overlook: ![]() A final pic on I-90 over the Cascades ![]() Everything ran as hoped with one small glitch, the cigar lighter fell out on the way from Hood River to Walla Walla. No big deal other than Mr. Valentine's little toy plugs in there. I kept it fairly mild except outside of Colfax where a young man in a new red Mustang didn't particularly like getting passed by an old man in an old car. Now that was fun... ![]()

Sounds like a good trip. I hope you got to taste some wine if you made it all the way out to Walla-Walla.
I grew up just South of Rat City. I was wondering if they still call it that.

2nd trip
After getting back from the short trip around the state my wife decided she needed a drive so we took off last Monday for the Oregon coast. First night in Cannon Beach, good meal at The Bistro, fine room at The SurfSand. But it rained most of the way down. Got up Tue to mist and showers, headed south and by noon it had cleared up. Surprisingly there weren't all that many pilgrims with RVs on the road so the driving was fun. Out of Tillamook we took the 3 Capes road but part of it was blocked and the rest was rough so I wouldn't recommend it. But the scenery was spectacular;
![]() And it looks like our host has a long reach; ![]() A stop in Charleston for lunch; ![]() and on to Yachats (Ya-hots) for the evening where we had a fair meal but a great time listening to a couple of guys playing swing music at the local pub. Down the coast to Gold Beach, stayed the night, then south to the Pistol River area: ![]() To Crescent City where I was disappointed to find only 91 octane at the Chevron station and when I asked the attendant if anyon in town had higher octane she responded with "What's that".... ![]() Through the redwoods heading to Grants Pass; ![]() A spectacular drive through the Applegate valley to Ashland, overnite there and then toward home; ![]() Other than the first day the weather was everything we could ask for, most of the roads in good shape with only occasional construction, and not all that many pilgrims. Thanks to JW for checking out the brakes, good to talk to the gent from Roseburg with the '89, and a fine time heeding that sage advice "just drive it!".

Great pictures. I loved the scenery and roads in that part of the country. Mountains, coastline, rivers, dams, national forests. The NW has it all. What a good looking p-car you have there.

Thanks, carreradpt, she is a beautiful car and I was very lucky to find her here in the Seattle area. Yep, Walter, it's still Rat City, hasn't changed much.

Slow down, pick a spot, pull over, jump out, head to the middle of the road, snap foto, dodge on-coming car, ignore digital salute, jump in, take off. Rinse, repeat...

Beautiful country views. Down here we have to get on a bridge to see that far in the distance. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Guys, for the comments. It gets a bit soggy around here, but when the sun comes out it's hard to beat. The trips combined for 2350 miles, about 2/3 of that two lane roads that really kept the driving interesting.

Nice documentation Seabear!
Being your neighbor ... I suggest that we do another road tour while the sun still shines here! I'll be sure to photograph the driver side as well - lol!

To add a little balance to the thread, here are a couple of passenger side shots;
![]() Dry Falls Overlook ![]() Port Orford, Oregon Johnermo - a road trip is in order, Sir! But you are going to have to rein in that new, gorgeous, black-on-black with red accents, geezuz what a fine looking beastie, turbo of yours so I can kinda keep up. ![]()
