Cup holders for a 911 (I must be getting old)!
Not to sound Chrysler-esque, but does anyone know of cup holders for a mid-80s 911? I almost froze the boys off yesterday on my drive to the beach. Any ideas that don't look too cheezy?
Thanks in advance. Doug '84 911 ROW

Do a search. There should be plenty on this. Jack discussed this six months ago and I'm sure there's photos and all

For years I've used one of those foam can holders (meant to keep things cold). It keeps the beverage cold and it doesn't slide around when you hold it between your legs while driving.

I just use a weighted cup holder on the pass floor- as long as you drive smoothly it works great- I have yet to have a spill (knock on wood).

Mark, Thanks for the search idea. Looks like the two suggestions are the Passat dual cup holder and a single from drinkholders.com. Both are fold out affairs that mount to a door or vertical surface. If anyone has other ideas, please let me know. Was looking for something to place over top my center heater control. Thanks, Doug.

The new Panorama...the PCA members magazine has an ad for a combo center arm rest and cup holder for 911s up to 1988.....if you don't have it, I can look it up. But it's in there.

I made this from a door hinge and a cheap plastic aftermarket cupholder. It mounts behind the knee pad, just to the right of the gear shift.

Bill, are you sure that isn't a Robotec shifter?

Well, it is easier to shift without having to hold a hot cup of coffee.

The only problem I see with that $90 cup holder is that it only fits 89 and newer 911's. What else is there for an 85?

Do you still have the OEM door pockets? I found a beverage fits nicely in rear of the door pocket (not the part under the lid) and is supported well. With my speaker mounted in the door, it prevents the container from tipping forward.

The only real solution to this problem? Buy a pepper car...a Cayenne. I'm sure there will be cupholders galore....AND you can still belong to PCA! Also, I read somewhere that the 2002 996's will come with cupholders standard. But who would want one of those when they could have a Cayenne?

Just looked at the Brid Auto ad in Pano....it says....fits 911s, thru 98. That would cover an 85.....

Actually, the door pockets are my current solution, along with a $2.49 Miami Dolphins spill proof (as long as the hole is covered) plastic driving cup I bought at an Arco gas station. Primitive, yes. Speed bumps can be a challenge, as some always manages to trickle out. Probably the best solution is to get rid of my Starbuck's addiction and the morning fix I so enjoy!

Since I am the dumb new Porsche owner, I don't get Panorama (Panoramic?) magazine. Saw it in a repair shop once. I guess that is how they help increase their sub base. Is there a link you can point me to?
