Old steering wheel ferrera or ferrero

Hey everyone i pulled this wheel from a 1966 912 that the PO owner bought back in 72 and said the wheel was on the car when he bought it. Im really wanting to know about what vintage this wheel is, its a very well built wheel that over the months i have done a home restore for future use on somthing? The hub is in good condition for its age but has no numbers on it. The hub is the same as nardi as i tried one of mine on the hub and it fit. The two spoke wheel is odd to me and i have not seen another like it i have searched a bit on line but no lucj on vintage two spokes.

Anyone ever seen one of these or know what the year is or about what year it is? Its kinda funny the more time i spend with this wheel the less i like it and more i think it should be in a mga or triumph.

anyways what do you guys think ive tried to date the hub but just dont know how to do it, the trim ring that covers the bolts is made of pressed stainless inside the horn button it says COSSATO & CAROZZO as well as BREVETTATO

thanks ed

Likely off of a Fiat 124, though it could be aftermarket. Two spoke wheels are uncommon, not popular - the Momo John Player special is the one I've seen most often..
Not a valuable piece, but use it if you like it; that nice short vintage Nardi hub with the kinda cool horn button is worth more than the wheel - if it's all there and working.

The hub is all there and working fine, the wheel is odd for sure. It sure looks like a british car piece for sure but i havent had any luck matching it up to anything as of yet. Was it normal for factory cars like fiat to use the momo hub pattern at the factory? I am helping the father inlaw with a 60 MGA that this wheel may look good on.

cheers ed

That is not off any Fiat made after 68. I have never seen one like it, although it is similar.

The guy i bought the car from said the previous owner installed it when the car was new, He told me that it was an after market wheel that you could go into a auto parts store and buy off the shelf. I just haven't seen any pictures of them or much info till now. So is it a stock fiat wheel or some sort of aftermarket wheel from back in the day?

cheers ed

I searched a bit further. Ferrero made wheels for mainly Italian cars, Fiats, abarths, Lancias and even Detomaso´s

De Tomaso MANGUSTA MA1266: Original restored Mangusta steering wheel (finally !) fitted

Lovely wheel by the way

Twistoffat

Thanks for the links thats fun stuff, so do you think they made aftermarket wheels or does this have a home on a Italian car somewhere.

Cheers Ed

I´d say so. Here is an interesting thread mentioning Ferrero in the same breath as Momo.

Hellegore GTA 1600 leather or wood, diameter 38 or 36 cm..... - Alfa Romeo Bulletin Board & Forums

I´d say they(Ferrero) as an Italian manufacturer concentrated on Italian cars and probably had contracts with the major italian manufacturers

Thanks, twist; as I said, fiat 124.

Yes- Ferrera is Italian, usually associated with Fiat and Lancia factory wheels. I have a really nice Ferrera 911R style wheel from the 70's. I've never seen them on Alfa's, but who knows? I've also never seen aftermarket ones, but that doesn't mean that some marketer didn't contract for a couple hundred back in the sixties and bring them to the states; it happened with several other makes.
I kinda spoke out of turn on value - I base value on a wheels Porsche-ness, and that's not one a Porsche guy would seek out. But as you said, valuable to the right car.

For what it's worth, Momo and Nardi have different bolt spacing. So if you could fit a Nardi steering wheel to the hub, it is not a Momo.

Nice looking wheel.
