84 Targa Window Adjustment

Hi,
Looking for a little help. I have a 1984 Targa and last week the passenger window fell out of the track and down into the door. I have been able to reassemble the window but there seems to be too much horizontal play (3/8") now. Before I finish reassembling the door, any thoughts on how to remove this play so it fits tighter in the tracks?

Rich

You reassembled the window by dropping the glass into the U shaped channel.

The U shaped channel, as part of the regulator assy, gets rusted and builds corrosion causing the rubber gasket to lose it's grip. There is oxidized ***** you need to remove.

Take it out and clean it. Wire brush/scrape/sandblast then use Ospho or Navel Jelly to neutralize the rust, Scrunch the U shape channel back into place and if it is wimpy like mine , use 3M weather strip adhesive to stick it into place (once you are happy with the window placement)

That window is heavy enough to just sit in that channel.... If the side guides are adjusted properly, the U shape bar is parallel to the window and the glass is snug in the channel.... It should freely go up and down without the rubber grabbing the glass. Take a loook at your adjustments... Alignment is the key to freely going up and down rather than relying on some glue holding the glass.

Also, there is one adjustment screw that tilts the horizontal bar.... The adjustment has slides that hoes up/down that will get the bar closer to the plane on the window edge.

Folks,

Thanks for the guidance. I will remove the glass and reseat it in the channel after I clean it as suggested. I'll keep progress posted.
