Recaro Keiper seat
I have a Recaro Keiper seat that I recently bought for 100 bucks that I wanted to re-sale in the future. I know it came out of a old model Porsche 911. But the only thing is that I dont know much about the seat model, or when they where made. The seat is in almost new condition. There is no wear n tear on the material at all, and all components on seat work. All I know about the seat is that it is a "Recaro Keiper" seat, because it says it on one of the plastic panels on the side of the seat. I would really like to know if anybody can tell me some expert advise on this seat, and how much it can probably go for today. Thanks

The first time I came across the name Keiper was in the description of an reclining bucket seat fitted in Works Mini Coopers in the early Sixties.
I had an ex-works S Type (1967 Model) fitted with a pair of these seats. They were then known as Restall Keipers. Restall were a Birmingham based Aircraft and Industrial Seat Maker that did eventually become Keiper Seating Ltd but I am not sure when this happened. They were then taken over by Recaro or merged and became Recaro-Keiper who are still trading now and have manufacturing in Birmingham and Brazil as well as Germany. The only Recaro seats with 'Tennis Raquet' head restraints were in the Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 in the late Seventies but these never had Recaro woven in the trim. They may have been used in Golfs as well but I am not 100% sure. I don't think they were ever fitted to a 911. |

That style seat, with the woven headrest, was also used in the Ford Mustang Indy 500 edition. I'm not positive it was a Recaro though.

Recaro seats similar to the one pictured above were optional on the '79 Indy 500 Mustang.

I believe that seat is a third generation LX, it looks to be a right side with the tilt release lever missing and only one mounting bracket ? Not sure on value, $200-300 ish ? I have the same seats in my '71 with different headrests and faded to the same odd olive green on the inset.

Well the information they had given me was that it had came out of a 911 Porsche, but they couldve been wrong of course. I do have the other mounting bracket, but Im missing the screws to attach it. Yes it missing a tilt release lever, which I forgot to mention. I just dont know what kind would fit on there.

What you were told might well be true. The seats were not originally fitted to 911's when sold new but someone may well have installed a set in a car at a later date.

The seat is a GEN 3 LX-C Made in the early to mid 80's - It was sold as aftermarket and not stock equipment.
Here is an image for model ref. If you ever have any more questions feel free to ask. I run jj custom interior and we specialize in restoring vintage recaros. We also have a large stock of them if you ever need any seats or parts.
