Removing front torsion bar cap?
I have already lowered the rear of my 67 and am attempting to lower the front. The car sits really high and I have already loosened the adjustment bolt to the max so I understand I need to remove the torsion bar cap and turn it to give me more adjustment. From what I read, the cap should come off pretty easily. Mine is not. I am assuming it is because the torsion bar is still putting pressure on the cap. I attempted to jack up the brake/a-arm a little bit hoping this would relieve some pressure but this did not work. Any advice or tips? Will the adjustment arm still be touching the stop when there is no pressure on it?
Thanks |

You have to lift the car and let the A-arm droop to relieve the pressure.
And you have to remove the TB cap adjustment screw to remove the cap, which should then just pull off. I took pics of the cap position under load, then counted the screw turns and noted how the cap was clocked as a reference before I removed mine. If the screw is out, try wiggling the cap, then clean the dirt from around the inside. The protective foam seal (dirt blocker) may have deteriorated and should be replaced. Lube the splines after you re-install the seal. HTH

Thanks,
I took your advice and pushed down on the brake and then was able to knock them off. Car is now low. I need to lift it up in the front a bit but left plenty of adjustment range. Appreciate the help. |
