So THAT'S what happened to that car. I remember seeing it for sale.
With the grey RS carpet and the Vitaloni mirrors it looks a little like my silver SC. Glad to see I'm not the only one who used this combo. |

July 14 - Glimmer of light at end of tunnel.
Mounted spacers front and rear, put rubber on 16x9R and 15x8F and rolled her into the light.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312131879.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312131903.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312131936.jpg Amazing the affect on ride height after taking out all that weight. |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312132248.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312132297.jpg After admiring our work, we decided that there was only one proper way to set off the rear of the car. That's right boyz and girlz....OLD SCHOOL, ROCK AND ROLL COOKIE CUTTER MEGAPHONES BOOYAAAAAA!!!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312132506.jpg |
With the renwed enthusiasm of a crackhead after a five-day bender who just took another hit of the pipe, over the next week, Pete tackled all the little stuff....
Headlights and turn signals http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312133017.jpg Window trim http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312133105.jpg Windshield http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312133303.jpg And rollbar and seats http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312133434.jpg |

From the start of this project, we wanted to get the details as correct (within reasonable $$ range) as possible, and this held esp true when it came to doing the 73 Targa winning RSR Martini graphics. Sooo, i called up a friend who is an assistant curator of the Matt Drendel (R.I.P.) collection in Hickory, NC, 1.5 hours away, and asked if we could bring our graphics guys up for a visit. This was so they could get their color swatches correct by comparing with one of the few original graphic Martini cars still around, the 2.1 Turbo in the Drendel collection. Trevor said sure, and so we paid a visit to the Drendel Collection (in the name of authenticity of course)....;)
Our graphix team at work... they had only worked on Nascars before... needless to say, they came away 'Porschestruck' http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312137576.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312137683.jpg |
Nice work ... can't wait to see the finished product !
Have fun with her in Eurpoe :) |
Thanks Don!
Some more pix from our visit to the Drendel collection http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312154980.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312155025.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312155055.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312155099.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312155129.jpg Pete happier than proverbial pig in $hite! But wouldnt u be if you were sitting in the former office of Jacky Ickx??? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312155242.jpg Probably the most significant collection of racing Porsche turbos from the 70's and 80's outside of the factory museum http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312155358.jpg |
Bad to the bone!
Side note: The front bumper on the RSR is very interesting, kind of like blending the upper bumper of the long hood style with the lower IROC 'front dam' with modern splitter... 'Milt' here on the board made a similar custom front bumper for his back date Carrera.. Amazing collection of spooled hot rods, thanks for sharing Juice and Co.! |
As we didnt yet have a plate for the car, Pete used the following week to attend to all the futher details of the car before we turned a wheel on the open road.
Install of the front oil cooler screen http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312156224.jpg Install of the Seine shift kit and our DZug Products Mulsanne shift knob http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312156324.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312156344.jpg And, perhaps most symbolically, the 'RSRification' of our wheels. Pete worked some special magic on them to give a most excellent result http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312156443.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312156486.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312156526.jpg |
Well, 4 days ago, that fateful day finally arrived that is perhaps the sweetest off all in a build that u have poured blood, sweat and beer into....
Basking in the early morning sun... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312158351.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312158533.jpg First fillup... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312158471.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312158501.jpg And then, it was time to let her rip, and rip she did... <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rnZ6IJLpRWA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Pete and i took turns in the driver seat, laughing our azzes off at the glorious music of the megaphoned flat-6:D:D:D |
Well guys, you are in a league of your own.
Really impressive. |
Jes, thanks for the kudos brother. Let us know what we can do to help u with your RSR build when u finish sorting the Turbo. We gotta get together at some point, even if it is just to taste single malt.
Another 'admiration' phase shot http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312161836.jpg Before driving down to Porsche Parade next week, we still have some detail work on her, including mounting a custom decklid grill and our carbon fiber reflector (discussed in this thread http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/604871-carbon-fiber-reflector-panel.html), some interior trim, and.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312164083.jpg Graphix.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312164202.jpg Thursday morning we took her to David and Hunter, our guys at Icongraphics in Greensboro and dropped her off for her Martini treatment. We had left Pete's 930 at shop in the weeks prior to use as a template for the graphix. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312165183.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312165249.jpg By Friday, we had gotten the following pix from the boyz at Icon... Looks like a large scale version of the Tamiya models decal sheet. Funny thing is, we found a scanned image of the decal set of the Tamiya Martini RSR online and it was accurate enough for the guys at Icon to use it in their rendering! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312165351.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312165470.jpg Money shot mock-up: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312165419.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312165443.jpg |
This is one of my favorite threads.................you guys rock.
Regards, Al |
