Post Different Wheels for an SC

I am contemplating adding a set of 17" wheels to my 80SC. I like the look of the turbo wheels, but would like to see how they look like on an SC.

Can some of you who have 17" wheels (turbo or otherwise) post your car picture or link to help me make my decision.

I am also concerned about the tires rubbing the fenders. Please let me know if there are any problems placing 17" or 18" wheels on an SC.

Thanks.

I haven't had any problems with rubbing on my '82SC. The 17" wheels will require the spacers obviously.

Here are '96 993 Cup II wheels on Sparky, before it was lowered. Click for even higher resolution.

These are 17x7/9, require spacers. Rubbing problems depend on the tire size you run, fronts are the biggest problem and you may need to roll the lips as I did. Fronts here are 205/50, rears 255/40.

I have since changed to 245/40 rear not because of clearence, I just think they are better balanced to the car. And the diameter is closer to stock.

18 inch are not recommended for SC/Carrera. The factory put out a bulletin about this (I don't recall the reason why). You will also find the ride with 18 to be significantly harsher.

I have 17" on my 81 911SC/RS. These are from Discount Tire and require no spacers. Wheel and tire set was around $2000 if I remember correctly. Tires are BFGs and the wheels are great, although a little heavy. I run 215/45/17 on front and 255/40/17 on back, with only the slightes rubbing on the outside of the fronts (under hard stearing load). I rolled the fenders slightly, and that has helped.

Thumbs up

If you want to unload your original Fuchs 16's (assuming they are in good functional condition), let me know. I may be interested.

Nick.

. I would advise against 18" wheels on your car. I think someone in the past posted a tech bulletin from Porsche warning old style 911's not to mount 18" wheels. These are Fikse 8 and 9" with 225 and 255's. Bill, you don't get any rubbing with your setup? I am about maxed out with this setup and have minor rubbing with track tires of the same size.

No rubbing, but all of the lips were heavily massaged, especially left front.

Bill, I get my rubbing in weird places. Both front fender inner walls on hard end of lock turns. The right top oil line in the rear. The rear left inner fender wall at the bottom by the exhaust. I am running alot of negative camber with the track tires. Also, track tires that are least 2 sizes wider due to there big square edges. As far as weight, because the wheels and tires are much bigger then the Fuchs they are about the same. The handling is like day and night though, especially on the track.

The Kinesis may have a different offset than the Fikse. I seem to remember that when I was shopping it was recommended to use spacers for the tires which I am using. I actually liked the clean look of the Fikse over the Kinesis but didn't want to deal with spacers.

As far as the oil lines I did have to relocate them. Here is the pic of the relocated lines.

there is a pic on my web site showing the minimal clearance at the trailing arm. The adjustment nuts were groud down.
