First real post and Thanks!

Quickly a big thank you to everyone who helped populate this forum over the years with enough info to help get my new to me 1978 SC roadworthy again. All that work and effort paid for itself in one trip yesterday, fantastic trip to Truckee and Lake Tahoe with the Wife. Sunroof open, windows down, cruising through the High Sierra twisties, the smell of summer, and just a hint of Brad Penn...

Sorry, older picture but needed something quick. Need to put the pile of pictures in a gallery someplace, sometime...

You helped take a fairly clean, stock 78 SC coupe that had not lived a "blessed" life through the apprehension of the first engine drop for new clutch and flywheel and seal, through another single weekend drop for yet another flywheel seal (leaked even with the brown Viton and Porsche tool) and the dreaded extended drop (watch that "while it's out" syndrome, dangerous and costly but does result in something clean and more reliable), ripped through many of the 101 projects, and off to the Lake! I have learned more model specific details in the last year than on any hot rod I have owned in the past, and there have been many. Another P-car addict added to the list... This forum is a great source of inspiration and information, thank you.

Quickly about the SC while we are here, 5 POs did a reasonable job of maintaining her through the years, a few bumps and bruises but I have not found a wrong nut or stripped bolt or something out of place yet. All the fluids came out w/o chunks, just normal wear and tear. Well someone did put the right rear end hard into something sandy, off road excursion maybe? I did find a couple new friends, kroil, propane, and the Wilding engine jack adapter. I will never re-stitch a steering wheel cover again, once is enough. Funny moment when the Wife ask if I was "gappin tappets", something from her Kiwi motorsport past but a phrase that makes complete sense.

New clutch, flywheel, oil seals, turbo valve covers, valve adjustment, Carrera tensioners, pulled inspection plates and things look sound except some exhaust cam lobes have pitting, blasted fan/housing, cleared 30 years of grease from top of engine, clean and refresh dizzy, new plug wires, backdated heater vents, new tranny/motor mounts, Sport shocks in rear, add pop-off, Swepco in the 915, some issues getting to 1st, BradPenn oil (new leaks) rebuilt CVs (yuck), minus AC and air pump, cat was already gone, lots of vacuum and soft oil lines, rebuilt pedal cluster, rebuilt shifter, braided brake lines, pads and blue fluid, powdercoated tin and engine mount brackets and fan, hours with mineral spirits, towels and paint... And some new tools...

Best trick (Gunter?) for me was the key stock with pipe welded on to hold bottle jacks on the jack points as yet another mount point for safety and lifting. And thanks to Grady and others for enough details to make sense of the engineering decisions made over the years as well as hints and tricks.

Hardest part is deciding what to do next, there are so many possibilities on a 33 year old car... must be front suspension time... or what in the world to do with all these Pelican Stickers, I have a big box full of them now

Anyway, thanks, a perfect day!

You said drive it, so I am! Joined PCA and local SCCA and now have an auto cross and PDX day under my belt, and hooked for more! Photo from track day at local track. This is way too much fun and something I have always wanted to do. Nice to have a 33 year old car out there mixing it up with all the new technologies...
