There's turbo guys and there's non-turbo guys. I personally don't think the mods will hurt the value much, if at all in the eyes of a dyed in the wool turbo guy. They are all easily reversible and pretty common with respect to the type of mods that get done to a 930. I'm not on board with the "this car will need to be discounted to sell it" mentality many people are expressing here. But that's for someone looking for a car to drive. If someone is looking to put it in a collection or show it, then they'll beat you all to hell over the mods. But even with such low mileage, you'll get a lot of people interested in buying it as a driver.

Try putting this same thread up in the 930 forum on Rennlist and see where it goes. I think you'll get some differing points of view.

I'm currently struggling with a similar dilemma but every time I take mine out i love it all over again and delay my decision again. That's a very nice ride and you've put a lot of time, money, and effort into making it an even higher performer. I'd slow down and put some serious thought into it first. How bad will you miss it when its gone?

You guys are awesome thanks for the "real" answers. I now not only want to keep my car, but feel bad about even contemplating it. I ripped through a tunnel the other days and the sounds was unreal. I drove my car this morning and I swear it had a rattle in the door that stopped, it looked and smelled new again and it definateley "floated' my boat. I like the look of a 993 (not the 996) and with no convertible option on I guess this is where my heart lies......Today anyway.

20k for a 33k mile '88 Turbo Cab? That's pretty damn low for this car. If the OP agrees with this valuation, I'll pay cash today.

Am I dreaming? I swear I've seen higher mileage '01 and '02 996 turbos trading in the high 30's to low 40s (coupes, not cabs and it might have been a year ago or so). If this turbo cab is in really nice condition it could be worth that kind of dough to the right buyer. If it can't be done for even money, you could probably pull off the swap to a 996t for not much additional investment.

nice car btw and glad to see you have come to your senses. as a new 930 owner, sometimes it takes a little while for the other ball to drop. 930 is a manly man's car and needs to be driven to be appreciated. sounds like you are getting it. as for wifey, ask her if she'd prefer riding shotgun in a new Boxster? if so you may as well hand them to her to put in the glovebox or her purse. anyone can go buy a 2000 something Porsche. you bought the 930 for a reason, relax and enjoy being someone who "gets it".

My perspective:

The one ride that could have the potential to replace mine is a 996TT.

If you were to put some tight suspension, lighten it a bunch, and remove some of the sound deadening, you might get 90% there towards your car now while still having a nice, new, modern 911 Turbo.

Of course in my case, the last 10% is the air-cooled sound which will never be duplicated, and that last 10% would be the hardest factor in letting go.

Noah 930 & I agree on more than just the color of our cars. These cars are not for transportation; they are for fun. If you think something else will be more fun, go for it. You are allowed to be a serial car collector; it is much cheaper than being a serial wife collector.

I spent 3 1/2 years having a 356 Roadster built 'my way'. It was perfect and gorgeous, but I didn't enjoy the driving experience. I sold it & bought my '89 Targa. I'm a happy camper; it is right for me. (Now)

I didn't explicitly state it, but I was talking 996 Turbo Cabs because the OP led me to believe he was only interested in considering replacing this car with another cab.

Personally, I am glad to hear the decision has become to keep and drive. It's what I would do and one I don't think the OP will regret.
