Help with Chain Tensioner Inspection
I'm pulling the motor tomorrow - 1980 SC. I'm going after the five or six common oil leaks and then adjusting valves. While I'm replacing my chain cover gaskets, is there a simple inspection I can do to judge the health of the chain tensioner system?
The motor has 220K miles on it and at some point before 121K it was upgraded with the Carrera oiling mod. I'm not experiencing any issues with the current set-up or expected wear and tear, but is there a visual or mechanical inspection I can do to judge if I have a pending problem in the near future? |

Look at the chain and the chain tensioner. If the chain is riding too close to the edge of the case, and the tensioner plunger is out too far, then the chain has stretched too far and you should replace it. At 200kmiles, you likely should replace the sprocket too.

Take several good close ups ( of the sprockets tensioners and chain rails) and post them. Use macro feature and flash on the camera.
