Passenger window Kaput!

The passenger side window in my 88 930 has finally stopped working. Any help in resolving the issue is GREATLY appreciated.

The window is controlled by either the switch on the driver's side or by the switch on the passenger side door itself. For years, the window would work sporadically. Sometimes it would go up and down and some times it wouldn't. When not working, I was able to get it to work by flipping the driver's side switch off and on until it eventually got the window raising and lowering. I always attributed the non functioning to the fact that the window was rarely used since I drive the car most often without a passenger and it sits for extended periods of time in the garage. I'm thinking possible build up of corrosion on the contacts somewhere in the circuit from switch(es) to window.

Since the window is controlled by two switches, I'm not sure where to begin tracing the problem. I checked the fuse and it is fine (of course, since the driver's side window works fine.

Would taking out the two widow switches and cleaning the contacts for each be the best way to go? Or is there a way to figure out where the current to the window is being interrupted?

Thanks for your help in advance!!

I had the same problem as well. Replaced the switches and was fine. I also had a problem with my driver's side as well. For this, my mechanic just grabbed the glass and pulled up. Then it worked. As he explained it, the motor could sometimes stop on a section where the winding is bad. By exerting some force, you can get by the bad section. FOur years later and I am still going strong.

You can take the switches apart, too. There is a plastic "nub" that can wear down in the middle of the switch. I replaced mine with a similar piece of plastic. I imagine the contacts could need cleaning, too, all inside the switch. Worth a try if you are planning on replacing them anyway.

My passenger window operation seems to be related to the position of the drivers door. If it stops working from either switch, I'll open the drivers door and it usually starts working again. I think I have a wire thats been compromised by being bent back and forth from opening and closing the door thousands of times.

Just spray some WD-40 into the switch.

Thanks for the suggestions. This weekend I'll try them all.
