I agree that more technical content on the board would be great - in response to Natchamp here is a legitimate technical question:
What are the benefits of the MSD/crane ignitions? I was recently discussing this with a fellow Porsche owner and there appears to be a body of thought that due to decreasing fuel quality the multiple spark ignition systems are better for carburetted or high compression engines. One opinion is that these are much better than the stock CDI ignitions. What do you know about this? What are your thoughts? What is the best source for these parts? What are the installation issues? Thanks, Charlie |

Charlie,
People tend to believe the advertising hype without any kind of proof! Or any kind of data supporting the claims! I have yet to see any data that indicates that even one hp can be gained by replacing the stock Bosch CDI-system. Even the Perma-Tune claims are based on a comparison with a battery-coil ignition, not a Bosch CDI system. Ever heard of Andial? Fairly well known in the Porsche racing community, right? Their twin-plug conversion kit contains a RSR-distributor, wiring harness, and a second, [b]STOCK BOSCH CDI-unit and coil!!! I doubt that if better, cheaper USA ignition components would improve performance ... that Andial would risk their reputation selling an inferior system. And they have their own in-house dyno facility, so you can't tell me they haven't run comparison tests! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
