aligning a new rear decklid
I'm adding a new decklid w/ a spoiler to my car this week and I want to be prepared to attack the job as soon as the decklid arrives. I'm wondering how you can adjust the decklid to align with the body panels and latch ? (I've seen other posts regarding aligning the decklid, but none that described how to do it).
It looks like there's simply 4 screws holding hinges to the decklid. How do you adjust the lid if there's only 4 screws? Arent the screws be set into 4 holes (i.e. giving you NO options to adjust the lid?) thanks! Tim |

Hi Tim,
I haven't tried that yet but one of these days I will. Some of the screw holes must be oversize so you can adjust the alignment I'd guess... What I do know is this - do the alignment with your tail installed. When I installed my OEM carrera tail it changed the shape of the deck lid enough that it now looks misaligned. It's probably only a mm off but it doesn't take much to be noticeable. Good luck! Eric H 87 Targa |

there are also shims which go between the deck lid and hinges. Also the two rubber bumpers on each side at bottom edge of deck lid can be turned in and out for height. Then you have the spring loaded latch that can be turned in and out.

Did this over the summer on my 72-quack tail. Took about an hour. I taped the edges of the tail with blue painters tape because of all the shifting back and forth, up and down. If you don't have shims, washers will do. Just takes time to get right.

You'll see when you jump in. You'll use spacers between the hinges and the lid, and you can adjust the lid on thej oval hinge openings.
But a very important note. When the lid is being closed, it will come very close to panel above the engine area. And if you're not careful and get it on too far forward toward the front of the car, you'll scrape the paint when you close it--even though the gap will be a 1/8" or 1/4" when closed--so watch this.
