please help: how to diagnose a non-working sunroof
Could you please give me some ideas on how to diagnose a problem on my 911SC sunroof? I just replaced with new cables, cleaned the rails and new seals but when I switched it on, there was no movement and no sound.
I also replaced with a new fuse but no luck. How do I check the motor? Any other ideas? Please help. Thanks Tom

Use a curcuit tester to see if power is reaching the motor
I'd also make sure that nothing is binding up with the cables. I doubt the cables are the issue but you never know. I would think the motor would still make a sound even if the cables were stuck. The motor may be a goner......

Unzip the headliner above the rear window, disconnect the leads to the motor and test for voltage with a multimeter as an assistant operates the switch. If you have a full 12 volts, you likely have a bad motor.

Yeap: verify the motor drive voltage, disconnected (as suggested).

If you don't have a meter, attach a power source to the motor leads and see if it turns. If it does, it may be the switch or wiring.
My switch went bad, due to metal fatigue of the contacts internally. I rebent the contacts but eventually they fatigued again, and I just replaced the switch.

the sunroof motor has 2 wires: 1 blue and 1 yellow. Which one is the hot wire and which one is the negative please? I was thinking to hot wire it from these 2 wires with a battery charger? I could not find anyone to lend me a hand to turn on the switch while check with the voltage meter.

Paul or anyone, how do you remove the switch? I removed the tach and tried to push it out but I couldn't. I didn't want to force it too much because I was afraid I would break it.

Both wires carry current--one for each direction the motor will rotate (forward or reverse) depending on the position of the rocker switch.
I can't remember exactly how to remove the switch, but I think it is held in by small barbs on each side.
