% of 77-89 turbos with factory sunroof delete option
Guys,
Had a discussion with a friend on numbers or % of early (pre 89) turbos that were made/ordered with factory delete sunroof option. I do not see too many of them and was curious as to what the number were, anyone have a clue? Thanks, Jimmy |

In 23 years of being around Porsche's all the time, I have only seen maybe 5-10. I was in Southern California for 13 of those years too. If you were in Europe the numbers maybe slightly larger than here in the US.
A guess would be maybe 3%?

"Sunroof delete option" is a fabrication by dealers trying to make a car with fewer options appear more valuable. In fact, the sunroof was always an expensive, extra cost option on 930s. The dealers always ordered them, because they made more money on the cars, that way.

I have a '78 that I am selling. They are very very rare, I have only seen a few. They do have the benefits of being lighter and also give more head room, (you also don't have to worry about leaks or a stuck sunroof motor).

930 non sunroof
I've wondered the same thing. I have an 82 non-sunroof 930, and I have never seen another one....and I look at a lot of p-cars. They are pretty rare. I jumped at the chance to buy my 82 specifically since it didn't have a s/r. They look cleaner, are lighter, and are a bit stiffer, and have more headroom. Since I would never use the sunroof, I wanted a non sunroof car, and I was lucky to find one.
Thanks for posting the inquiry...hopefully someone with some real numbers/statistics will reply. WKC 82 930 modified, 351 rwhp |

Agreed very rare, which is a shame. I hate sunroofs. I consider those people that score a 911 without one very lucky.
IMO the novelty of letting in light & air from above is far outweighed by the nuisances of potential leaks, trim that you have to be careful of when polishing & waxing, cable & motor failure, low headroom (makes a big difference for even an occasional track day where helmet clearance is really tight), headliner issues, etc. I'm just not a big fan of the hole in the roof idea. Some people love them and open them every time they have the opportunity. Not me at all. Windows down is plenty fine with me.

I have an 86 930 without one, wish I had one though. I agree on the low numbers without but don't know how many are out there. It seems every impact bumper 911-930 I see has one unless it's a Targa or Cab.
