Targa - Window Rattle - Door Close Sound
I am chasing down the remaining couple rattles on my 85 Targa and need help. (I know the targa and rattles are synonymous) I bought the car one year ago. Sometime ago the doors were resprayed for dings the PO said. The doors look to be original and the shut lines are perfect.
The problem is that the windows rattle inside the doors terribly when they are down. Are there any adjustments, or issues I should look for when I take off the interior panels? Fixes? I greased the door latch, which was another squeak, but this is glass and metal rattle noise. Also, my door has a lighter latch or closing sound when I close the door compared to other Targas. The door has a light metal / tin sound versus a thud. Is there insulation or other material inside the door that could have been removed when the doors were repainted that makes them sound less dense when closing? Thanks for any insights. |

The glass has probably come loose from the regulator track at the bottom inside the door. It is actually just glued in place. You will have to do some research on the specific form of adhesive to use--i have read some have good experience with plain rtv silicone from home depot.

Also, there is a felt strip that lines the inside of the glass at the top or the door--you might want to check its condition. You will have to take the door panel off and roll the window all the way down to really get a look at it. Even then you may not know if you need a new one without replacing it.
