Where are you as the bay area is pretty big and has some good wrenches depending on specific area.

Chris,
Everyone mentioned has a following, and they're all good. It's silly to drive 30 miles when 5 will do. Where do you live?

I would say the consensus #1 in The City is Alan Klingen at The Stable at Franklin & Pine. And it is not too long a walk after dropping the car. However, Alan has been ill, and I'm not sure if he is back up to speed.

I actually called the Stable numerous times prior to this post but the line was always busy so I gave up and resorted to this format. (my former mechanic in Seattle who worked on my car for the last 15 years, recommended The Stable)

Being a little further south I can't comment directly on SF service, though someone I trust had used The Sable when he lived in SF as well as Cars Dawydiak and he gave them both high marks.
From direct experience I'll have to offer a no on Tom Amon (can say some good things about him, but the bottom line is having recently discovered the quality of work he did on a few items and the time and expense involved in setting these right, would outweigh anything good). |

If I were you, I'd stop by sometime on the way home from work. One way to limit the amount of work when you're busy is to leave the phone off the hook.

I have to add my recommendation for Alan Klingen at The Stable as well. There is a reason his phone is always busy. (He's good)
