Dear Listers,
On the way to lunch (here in Dallas) I saw a baby/powder blue 3.2 series. The paint "looked" original but I have never seen this color. I have begun to get interested in some of the old jelly bean colors Porsche used but I must say this one looked way to feminine to be on a 911. Sorry if that sounds sexist even though I think of my car as female. (all those awesome curves!) Is there a manufacture/source to see old Porsche colors? I would love to get a bargain on an old 2.7 and repaint it one of those colors. Buck 88 coupe (Guards Red) |

There's a woman who drives a powder blue SC on the other side of the parking lot from me. We have my black '84 and a white '86, and a '00 silver 996 that usually all park near one another. The blue one draws a lot of attention only because she has the fuchs painted to match! If she's out there today, I'll snap a photo to post!!!

I had a '73 914 with factory paint called "eggshell blue", and it was a baby blue. I imagine the 911 had the same color option.
Personally, I don't think it looks fem at all. The color really stands out in world overun by red/black/white/silver porches. My '77 had a factory color called "mint ice" which is a green / silver tint. Beautiful color. Unfortunately a bad repaint does not match the original well. Now it looks like pea soup, hence the name "sweet pea". Bring on the odd colors, I love 'em. ------------------ ![]() [This message has been edited by Clark Griswald (edited 07-16-2001).] |

Here's that old-fashioned jelly bean blue (technically it's "Pastel Blue", #2020). It's kind of grown on me, and now I can't imagine the car being any other color. Good for racing, too, since you can see the car coming a mile away.

That blue is definitely one of my favorites, along with the bright green that is sometimes seen. There was a recent article in Panorama or Excellence where a guy painted his 356 "Iridium" that was sort of metallic green and it was gorgeous. I can't remember if it was a factory color. I agree, there are too many basic color 911's around, including mine. I'd love to see more non typical colors.

Doug Zielke of this board has a Pacific Blue Metalic that is absolutely gorgeous. I'm not sure if he has pics in the owners gallery but maybe we could get him to post one to this thread.

I looked at a 78SC once that was a light blue, non metallic color. It had 17 inch Rufs and looked awesome. I think it was the color referred to as robins egg blue but I think the porsche name was minerva blue. I have an authenticity book that lists the colors for each year...too bad a paint chip isn't included for each.
Personally, I don't think you can beat venetian blue metallic...but I'm a little biased. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/Forum3/HTML/010979.html Don 87 coupe |

Those are some nice blues but the car I saw was REALLY light/faded blue and did not appear to be a repaint, but what do I know...maybe it was a one off from the factory. Another rare color I have seen on only 2 3.2 911's was a light graphite/green color. It looked very good.

One other light blue is Light Blue Metallic, which is the color of my SC. I don't have any readily postable pics, but I can try to get some. It's a VERY pale blue, with almost a silver cast to it. I believe the paint code is something like 30T for that one.

In '83 the baby blue was named "glacier blue", and it was the first color you imagined as a baby pyjama at the newborn ward. VERY pastel, but great looking. Non metallic color

In the mid-60s, I purchased a 1959 356-A from the wife of an AF General - they had purchased the car new in Germany and brought it back to the States. It was a pale, flat baby blue color. I didn't much like the color, but that car was in perfect shape.
- It was in perfect shape, that is, until some stupid broad in a pick-up truck, towing a boat, made a left-hand turn in front of me, as I was coming down the mountain Interstate from Victorville to San Bernardino. I avoided the truck and boat, but on the second donut, managed to back into a one-foot high curbing and knock the rear suspension out of wack - body and tranny damaged too. That poor car was never the same. sigh ![]() Chuck |

Mine's Light Blue Metallic (hellblaumetallic). The color's a bit off in the photo due to the shadow and the fact that I hadn't upgraded to my new digital camera. Check the color of the sky for reference.

There's someone in the Chicago region of the PCA with a powder/baby blue 70s Turbo. The owner said it was the original paint, and that car is the strongest argument for color-changing a car I've ever seen.
