Front door panel removal - help?

1988 911 Cab. I am trying to remove the front door panel to install new separate speakers. It has power door locks, and a 5.25" speaker mounted low and a ~3" speaker mounted high (stock system). I have a 5.25 replacement and will mount a small tweeter in the top spot (hopefully maintain the stock grill by cutting into the 3" speaker to mount the small tweeter to).

Anyway, I am trying to get the door panel off as I need to find the stock cross over to install my own. I got most of the screws out for the map pocket but it is hooked on something near the door lever. I got the top trip piece off as well we the bolts for the top of the door handle (used to pull the door shut) but I am stuck on where to find how to disconnect the door lever (opener) area. Something is got it hooked to the door but be darned if I can find it. Then I got the upper turn wheel for the door locks as well that I cannot figure out how to remove.

Any advice appreciated. Thx

Door lock knob - Remove the round center plastic cover with a very small screwdriver. Behind the cover is a screw holding the knob on. The bigger plastic backing plate is also screwed on. Rotate it counterclockwise to unscrew it.

Good luck,
Dan

The entire door handle should be removed. Can't tell from your posting if you have done that.

Also, with mine, the speak attaches directly to the door frame, therefore you have to pull the speaker as well.

Glad some are around on my day off
I got the door lock off (I shoulda seen that cover!).
And for the door handle, I unhooked the little lever that connects it to the door mechanism and the handle folds outward alot, and now I see 2 screws (allan) holding it to the door.
Turns out I don't need to remove the panel after all as the stock cross-over was behind the map holder and I can wire my new one in there after figuring our the wires.

thx!

I am also removing my door panels to fix the power lock. How do I remove the bigger speaker? Do I need to remove this when i remove the door panel? I removed the tweeter by turning the cover counter clockwise.

Thanks,

The "sticky" stuff on the vapor barrier should be re-usable.
