The engine has landed
Nice and clean, see!
All tuned up, winterized, valve covers refinished and heading off to storage for the winter http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1320798008.jpg |

Getting crap right now for fumes in the house tonight, but worth it if you ask me :-)

wow this is a great thread , it gives me motivation for my own VW fastback build... awesome work , keep it up!

Well, the car is FINALLY off to the painter's shop. While we were waiting, Mike took care of some of the finishing work, so that should mean less time at paint. Meanwhile, I have been neglecting this thread.
Time to increase the momentum of this project once again with more stories from the big book to pass the time: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325352805.jpg |
Dem's da brakes
I could use some guidance here if anyone wants to comment on what I have. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325352972.jpg (use will be DE days with fast flowing tracks with no really hard braking zones, sub 80 degree weather most of the time, and street driving) |
I'm guessing that I might need more?
(I should clarify that I am looking for an interim solution to get rid of my 'M' calipers and make use of the rotors that came in the box). I may do a full brake upgrade in the future once I have some miles on it). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325357195.jpg |
Why do you need more? Get some Performance Friction 01 pads and swap them out for the track, run Motul 600 fluid, and drive. I wouldn't have bothered with the cross drilled rotors, I run stock Zimmerman's on my race car as the drilled/slotted/frozen/voodoo rotors all crack long before the good ol stock ones do.. You did replace all the rubber brake lines I assume, new rubber is fine, don't need SS..
|
I've run an early car on 6 inch wheels, but this car has added horsepower, and a 9 and 11 inch wheel combination.
Not sure if using these new rotors that came with the project, and the sock 73 'M' calipers are enough since I have no baseline for comparison. (Enough meaning adequate vs. ultimate race car like at one end of the scale and scary weak at the other). BTW, car is not back from paint yet so i haven't done anything to the brakes yet, other than inventory what came with it. Thanks in advance. I appreciate the guidance. |
M calipers ought to be enough to lock the tires, which is all you need. As for fade, go for more airflow. Ms are not as light as some calipers, however, and that is where you will be giving performance up.

Thanks.
I guess that closes the brake chapter for now. On the the next story from the big binder !http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325427172.jpg |
Today's story from the big book that came with the car

More from the binder. Looks like I'll be set when the car comes back from paint.

Beautiful! Don't let Pleco see it... He may have an early car desire crisis!!
Wayner are those Fuch centers with BBS shells? 3 piece? |
Yes they are.
I had a set of weld ups made for me by True design. Meanwhile, while waiting I found an old ratty set of 13" rears built from BBS hoops and fuch centres. I then acquired a narrower pair of outer hoops to make 11's, so I now have two sets of rears. One weld up set, and one BBS set to fit the car. I'll be all set for both sunny and rainy track days, as well as going for ice cream on Sundays. P.S. If anyone is looking for a nice black 911, look carefully. I found mine in the back of someone's garage under a pile of boxes and a coat of red paint and primer. (See the first post in this thread) |
