Is that a G50?

Whatever it is, it looks heavy duty and has at least one shiny part! :)

Looks like a WEVO shifter and internal gate shifter for the 915. Nice.

The prize goes to 'will hung' for the correct answer!

I went with carbs on relatively mildly cammed 3.2L for similar usage -- I think I might want more cam tho...

wayner 08-30-2011 01:27 PM

Hmm, I wonder what the cam on the build sheet (one page back in this thread) is like?

This engine started as a 3.0 apparently.

I think the cam is better than the stock 3.0, but I am not sure how much better. Any thoughts?

RWebb 08-30-2011 01:59 PM

where does the power fall off when you drive it?

356RS 08-30-2011 02:55 PM

Your receipt book indicates GE 40 cams and 46 Webers. Seems like a mild cam for the 46's but I could be wrong. Great project.

wayner 08-30-2011 04:28 PM

Thanks Mark

Rweb, I have no clue. I've only had it up to 3 grand and that was on a dyno to see if the engine still worked. It will be fun finding out!

RWebb 08-30-2011 04:45 PM

ok, I'll give you my thought process...

When I drive my car I sometimes think it needs more cam.

But when I think about my age and read pwd72S's posts about getting rid of his car, then I start to think that in a few years I will be happier with this cam.

So... I guess the thing to do is to drive it around for a while and think about it. It does cost $$ to change to a different cam too.

More stories from the big binder

Makes sense.

I need to enjoy this for at least a season once I have it on the road, before I start spending again.

Here is a pic of what supposedly is going on inside this motor, according to the big binder.

We also noted that the port sizes have been significantly massaged.

I think your 3.2 has a different stroke than my 3.0, so your 3.2 is supposed to feel more torquey while mine will feel more revvy won't it? Maybe someone can tell me if there is supposed to be a difference?

For a light 73 that should have had a 2.4, this built 3.0 should feel pretty healthy the first time I drive it. Day two might get a little boring in comparison :-)

On to the body:

This looks promising! A little haze of rust on the bare metal from sitting inside for a few years unpainted, but those are new rockers!

(Never mind the gaps, the door is open in this pic)

I noticed the thread about putting the '73 in the crusher. I have a '73 and after fighting to get this car finished for years I believe I would rather put my head in the crusher instead of the car. Restoring a car is not for the faint at heart especially if it's your first[my last] attempt.

wayner 08-31-2011 04:40 PM

Got any pics of yours?

Pic of the floor.

As purchased:
Nice and solid with the added bonus of most of the pain in the butt coating removed.

Underneath looks very good. The only issue was removing some of the dents from misplaced jacks during the car's life.

More good news was found up front.

I was told "ALL the rust as taken care of" and it certainly looks like it.

New suspension pan etc.

looks great....good luck on the project. I would replace that MSD with a good CDI box. And get a good AFR to keep those carbs right.

But that is many months in the future.

Have fun.

Today I will read another story from the big binder. It begins in a dimly lit garage with a sloppy shifter....

Here is the receipt that I found for the WEVO components:
