Is This a Stock Rear Decklid Grill?

I've attached some pictures of a rear decklid grill currently on an '88 coupe. I know the decklid on this car was replaced at some point, so I know it is not original, but does anyone know if this is a stock/ OEM part or if it is some kind of aftermarket piece?

(Sorry for the iPhone pics)

Thanks!

Thanks!

Not sure why, but I was not expecting a plastic part.... Not really feeling that. Guess I'll look into what options there are for replacement.

Yup its stock, unfortunately it is plastic, back in the 80's plastic was becoming more common as it became stronger and more available. I quite like the option on the link above but there are lots of options out there. Some people just put a little trim on the edge and live the whole area open (Im not a fan of as my 911 is a DD when I use it and that is a big opening for big things to fall into my engine. I have also become quite a fan of Magnus Walkers louvered deck lid they are quite cool.

Regards
Dave

I had that plastic grill on my fiberglass ducktail. Surprised at how heavy it was.

Al sent me one of his grills. Nice fit......since all aftermarket tails are different, it needed a longer bolt on the middle fastener, due to a larger than normal hump in the glass lid.....

He was nice enough to send me/drop ship a replacement bolt. I added an additional spacer and it's flush, straight and now the grill is a nice custom touch. Not that much on my SC is stock anymore....

Also....Better than the zip tie I was considering....

you could make your own out of titanium expanded sheet

McMaster-Carr

I would have to make it with carbon fiber, due to the size of the sheet not being big enough to cut an entire grill from

unless I took it to someone who can weld Ti

lots a material stock at McMaster carr

http://www.mcmaster.com/#perforated-aluminum-sheets/=sjl51o

honey comb aluminum

Andrew, mine looked a bit like that and I cleaned it with armorall or something similar and it's looked great ever since.

You can enhance the original grille's looks with careful trimming. See post #25 here:
