And maybe I am not being clear. A 245 tire is only adequate on an 8 inch rim, and I can't imagine it being really stellar on a 7. They work really well on a 9. A 225 is pretty good on a seven, and really good on an 8.

Assuming that you have a nice set of shocks on a lowered and well aligned vehicle, the difference is that you will either be driving the slip angle of the tires, or you will be driving the chassis and suspension of the car. One will be crisp and tight feeling, the other loose and vague, like sailing a boat. Add a set of tired rear shocks to the mix, and the feeling isn't going to make you want to push it in a long sweeper.

Hi Guys, I've just picked up this old thread and looking for some help. I have a "Street only" Euro height '87 Cab and running Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 StarSpec tires 205/55/16 and 225/50/16 on 6" and 7" Fuchs. I just bought an OEM set of 8" for the rear and fitted the 225s. Looks and feels great. I'd like to fit the 205s on the 7" and run them up front. The question is, Do I need to roll the lips of the fender?? Some say Yes, some say No! I'd prefer not to roll if not necessary. I'm trying to stay stock apart from wheels. Any comments from experience appreciated. Thanks JGR

Depends on your individual car, the type of tire (some are wider than others, even in the same size), and, importantly, how low your car is and your suspension settings (camber).

i had to roll mine with 205s on 7s. I tried to get away with not doing it, but at certain speeds/bumps/steering angles it would hit.

But on my prior 911, I didn't.

I doubt you'll have to roll. My car is super low w/ BBS RS 16x7s (same offset/backspace as Fuchs) and 205/55s up front and never rubs. I also have Conti DWs, which have much softer/bulging sidewalls compared to Star Specs.

The DWs (not DWS, just DW), for what it's worth, are quiet and offer decent grip in dry and wet, but with sidewalls this tall, they roll over and feel numb at autocross no matter the tire pressure. Since I don't drive my 911 a ton of street miles, next set I'm going more aggressive ala RS3, Z2 SS, etc.

I've got a set of 205/55 16 and 245/45 16 from Yokohama have a lot of thread on them, I switched them out for track tires as these were street. let me know if you want to get the set I have them for sale.
