Please help I screwed up

I did some upgrades today which included head temp sensor upgrade (that went nice and easy), and I also installed new o2 sensor

There are two plugs on the o2 sensor, one the has two pins and the other has what looks like a spark plug socket

When I slid the rubber socket onto the male fitting the male fitting broke off

How bad did I screw up and can this be fixed

what is the purpose of this socket?

I ran the car and it seems to run fine

Happens all of the time. Cut the plug off and splice in the connector of your choice. I use a spade connector on mine currently.

Just one additional bit of info. This is a coaxial cable, meaning it has an outer noise suppression ground wire casing with more insulation then the enter core wire. This is the wire you want to connect to the O2 sensor. Make sure you cut the outer suppression ground back about 1" and tape or heat shrink it, if a strand of the ground contacts the core signal wire it will cause the car to run full rich. When Red Line does this repair we use bullet style connectors with the insulated female connector on the main harness and the male connector on the O2 sensor wire.

Solder it really will and insulate with heat shink on both side, especially the DME side.

I used the water proof bullet spade set.
