OK, I'm going to be the noob that steps up for all of newbie's (no, I didn't do a search, simply responding to this post)....past getting rid of that big ugly blower in the engine compartment, is there any other point to this? This series of steps adds hoses so does your heater still work?

Gets rid of big ugly blower and yes heater still works.. just at a reduced level.

This is a great low-cost solution to an old problem. Downside to a heater backdate: less demist power at tickover.

I roughly translated that to "less defroster capability at startup."

"Demist" is the same as "defrost" and "tickover" is idle. So he is saying you wont have as much defrost power at idle.

Demist - keeping hot air in the car off the cold screen.

When your car is ticking over, the warm air from the engine will only have tickover revs to push it through, so it won't be as effective as having the fan on there. If you're sitting in a line of traffic in the rain, you might have to crack a window to keep air going around the cabin. Might also require a cloth...

To my mind it's a small price to pay for getting rid of all that cracked plastic hose stuff.

Search on here for heater backdate to see the spendier versions of it using original parts.

At a reduced level at tickover only. Soon as you bring the revs up it is back to BBQ temps in there

Tickover and demist are English words. You'll find a whole host of similar "different" terms in the Haynes manuals eg cotter pin vs split pin. When you learn them all you can converse with petrolheads around the world!

If there is insufficient demist at the lights , blip the throttle a few times. As if you weren't getting the looks you were after anyway

As for the sitting-in-front-of-an-open-fire sensation that is the old 911 heating system , I enjoy the window down+heater on experience. Fresh air is good , engine sounds are good and you might even get a winter tan. If it's raining , well only us hardcore guys take our Porsches out anyway. and a rag is a cheap demist accessory... a microfibre one constitutes an update on the original.

Not a bad idea. Does anyone know where to find those parts in the US? I can only find them on Demon Tweeks that he references.
