Loud Exhaust for 930 Turbo

I'm planning to change the stock exhaust on my '89 930 Turbo. I'm not too familiar with what's out there these days. I'm looking for one that's loud and deep sounding. I DON'T want one that's high pitched and has that whistling sound. I prefer a "period correct" sound if there's such a thing. (meaning I want it to sound like an 80's car and not a modern sound)

Hope to get your inputs. Thanks.

Jay

A B&B dual out is loud and very deep sounding. Too loud for me so I took it off and went with a single out.

I used a single out from Rarlyl8 and it sounds good and really made my 930 more driveable, would pull better from low rpm and comes on the turbo sooner with out the "thrown the switch - kick at 4000 rpm. The old kick at 4000 was fun and I sorta miss it but my new pipe is way better in sound and performance. I've heard that the duel out mufflers can drone at steady highway speed, my single out doesn't but it pops and burbles perfectly off throttle.

Hello Bryan, Where does the other pipe exit? Would you have photos? If that's not too much to ask.

Thank you for helping out.

Regards,

Jay

Our products are all made in the US and carried by our host.

What is the "high pitched and whistle" sound that you don't want? Typically the louder the muffler the more turbo whistle you will hear. Is that the sound you don't want? I don't know of any high pitched mufflers as the 930 engine does not produce a high pitched sound. My tuned headers produce a higher note than other systems but I don't think that is the sound you are talking about. We offer 3 sound levels with every system. The Outlaw version uses a bypass pipe in place of the muffler body. The tailpipes make that system not a loud as a zork pipe but very aggressive for the street. The Hooligan is more muscle car sounding and fairly civil for wife's and neighbors. With both systems you can hear the turbo whistle.

A few years back someone made a large can that looked like the stock muffler with a 4" tailpipe. Extremely loud as it acted like a resonance chamber. I'm not sure what you are after but there are some loud ones out there.

IMO, Period correct is a Zork! and if you drive an N/A 911 with megaphones for awhile, a zork is really quite quiet!

Here. Btw, the guys are right about the droning. It starts from 2200 rpm all the way to about 3500 rpm. It'll give you a headache until you get used to it. Then it'll drive you nuts.

I had the same setup as WPOZZZ and loved it. Turbos are not as loud as NA cars as the turbo actualy muffles some sound, but I had a straight dump pipe and when the wastegate opened it sounded like a jet airplane. Freaking loved it.

Hello Brian,

Thanks for enlightening me on what you have. This is my first Turbo (most of the cars I have are early cars) so I'm really not very familiar with its exhaust system and all the the other Turbo peculiarities such as the droning characteristics as Bryan (WPOZZZ) had described above. Would you have sound clips or videos on youtube where I can check out the sounds of the different systems you offer?

Thanks for your help.

Jay

This is my car with Brian's equal length headers and a B&B dual outlet exhaust. Brian's headers have a more 'zing' to them than standard headers, it is a little hard to explain. The B&B has some drone from around 2200rpm up to just over 3k. When I put mine back together I plan to run a zork.

Here is another one.

Borla. Not too lound, just lounder than stock. Deep, basel kind of sound, like a giant throat guy.
