Are these thermal reactors?

Engine is a 76 and I believe a ROW car. Are the valve covers standard?

Thanks.
Do I have thermal reactors as well? It seems funny that someone has bothered to replace the valve covers but didnt upgrade the 5 blade fan or the reactors??

Not funny! One of the three fixes is cheap, and hides a common engine issue (bleeding oil) that might put off average buyers.
The other issues are unique to the engine and the average punter (or shade tree mechanic) would not suspect the reactors or fan needed upgrading.
These are special needs cars!

It's just a money pit....
Do I have reactors then? I have the haynes manual and they do like what's in the book!
PP do a replacement for $300 - do these replacements just bolt on with a few gaskets or is it not that easy!?

Read this Are these thermal reactors?
Some things appear to be plug and play. It's the stuff before "plug" that can make you weep!

you do not have thermal reactors. the opening that is visible should be connected to an air duct hose and blow air through to the other end and eventually into the cabin.

I agree. You do not have thermal reactors.

I am concerned about the heat hose missing.
Your overheating may be related.
Car still overheating after 11 blade fan fitted

Please post an image of the top of the engine.
Are there heater cold air tubes disconnected or open?
You could be ‘wasting’ a lot of your cooling air with one or both cold air tubes open.

In order for the engine to be cooled properly and the exhaust inside the heat exchangers not overheat, the heaters must be connected all the way through the heat control (‘flapper’) valves.
The restriction of the ducting, heat exchangers and ‘flapper’ valve are necessary to have proper air flow through the engine fins.
Without air flow through the heat exchangers, they overheat and there is fire danger from accumulated oil drippings.

Best,
Grady

Definitely not thermal reactors. In fact, it looks like the stock exhaust system. The turbo valve covers are nice to have, so there's two things about your car that are good.

The only thing in your pic that looks a bit concerning is the permatex clearly sticking out around exhaust. Someday it would be worth cleaning that up and getting the right gaskets on it.

Now you have eliminated the evil 5 bladed fan, it's time to drive it!

Have fun!

My car is a '76 2.7 that came to New Zealand aged 20------It had lived its U.S.A.life in Reno, and is still straight and clean. It came with an 11 blade fan, no external oil cooler and a set of what I assume is the "W manifolds."
There is a photo of a turbo engine with the same reactor replacements as mine on page 156 of Bruce Anderson's Performance handbook.[2nd edition]
I would be interested to know who made/supplied them.
Seems that anything that isnt SSI,must be rubbish, but I have seen many exhaust manifolds on many different cars that look a lot worse than these?
Dont get the idea that I dont like SSI-------I just had to sell my set recently
to buy food!---times are hard! [ The car might be next to go!]
