made in russia?
I just purchased a set of Bosch spark plugs for my '70 T. I thought that the plug fouling problem I may have been having was that half of the "German " plugs were made in Brazil. I get a new set from Pelican parts and stamped on the plug was Russia, between the rest of the info stamped on a spark plug.
Are these plugs worth putting in my baby? And have we come to that?

I'd at least try them out before condemning them to the rubbish bin.
Bosch don't make crap and they won't put their name on crap regardless of country of origin. BTW: Like Mitutoyo, NGK Are manufacturing some of their stuff in Brazil now.

yeesh, I'd trust parts made in Mexico before I trust a part made in Russia. Very poor quality control, unless you're buying Vodka. Or borscht. Or one of those hot Russian brides, but those tend to be extremely unreliable after a very short period as well.

I remember when made in Japan was considered taboo, boy times have changed.
They should just stamp "OPOD = Other, than Place of Original Design"

+1 on NGK....
Very good quality plugs, I used them for 40 years on motorcycles as well, never an issue. Bosch seems to have a bit of QC issues these days depending upon plant location - silver coils from Brazil (crap), and recently on my SC distributor cap (Spain I think) I had to spend 30 minutes filing the insides of residue to make it serviceable (seems to work well though).
I recently picked up a new Beru cap (Germany) and it was better manufactured and less expensive to boot - I am stocking up before they shift production outside Germany! That Chinese fuel pump thread really made me ill. I don't mind paying more for quality and skilled labor with adequate pay & benefits to produce a part, but child and/or prison labor, etc., burns me up. The fact that Porsche is probably making an unreasonable markup (1000%??) just makes matters worse. Do the Russian plugs look like they are they machined well? If you decide to use them please provide feedback...... |

I dont think I'd be alone challenging that, especially their blue-topped coils.

Or my SKF wheel bearings made in Romania. Or my BMW 528 "Zimmerman" rotors from China. Or my Chicago deep dish pizza ... oh wait, that's still made right here thank heavens.

Bosch has really been putting out lots of junky parts since the late 90's. I would put those plugs in lawnmowers and then get a good set of NGK or even Champions would be better than Russian plugs.

Perhaps we shouldn't generalize as the quality of output of an entire country? There is crap made in every country, that's just reality.
For today's humour content you can see a backwards Chinese spark plug factory here: Thread: A visit inside a state of the art spark plug factory in China at News Forum (ThreadID: 1063782) I have no idea if this is a joke or not, but my guess is they are knock-offs of some sort....
