So I just wanted to share info on my experience so far with a built 915 transmission mated to a 3.8L engine... I purchased a complete never tracked built '85 Carrera and transplanted the drivetrain to my purpose built '74 911 track car. The donor car and drivetrain had a Sachs Power clutch installed. One day at the track with the motor (only producing 236 rwhp) and the unit broke,. We installed a new Sachs Power clutch kit thinking the previous one was a fluke, changed the exhaust and tuned the motor to produce 282 rwhp, hit the track and that one exploded after 2 twenty minute runs! Now I admit when I'm ignorant, but it took quite a bit of digging online to find any specific power and torque capacity ratings for this Sachs kit. From what I've found (and heard), it turns out that the Sachs Power kit is not capable of handling 240 rwhp... we are now installing a Patrick Motorsports CLU DF991002 lightweight triple strap carbon / kevlar modified and strengthened clutch kit. I feel confident I'll be good to go with this unit. Anyone else with any experience in this matter is welcome to cuff me up 'side the head or enlighten me with different knowledge and/or experiences. Dave.

Watching!
I'm curious on this topic as well... since having turbocharging my NA Carrera, I've been looking to upgrade the clutch to handle 300RWHP. From my research it sounded like the Sachs power clutch would do the job. I SERIOUSLY have my doubts now...

no more than 235hp to a Sachs Power kit 915 clutch...
Yeah, seriously, don't go there
... call Patrick Motorsports and speak to Jim Patrick about your application. When I did find "specs" on what the Sachs should handle, it they referred to "240 hp" and 200 ft/lbs of torque not identifying whether that meant WHP or just HP. It may be as much as 2 1/2 times the money but done once and done right. Just sayin'...Dave. |

hello,
no problem with the sachs power clutch kit (you have to use the complete kit!) for the 915er gearbox on road or track. 3.0 with 238 DIN hp 3.0 Turbo with about 400 hp (nobody knows it exactly) 3.2SS with about 290-300 DIN hp 3.6 with 302 DIN hp but... ...your clutch cable and pedal mechanic have to move free and the cable have to be correct adjusted. thanks
