high pitch squeal coming from under right side of air box
I have a noise , high pitch from under the air box on a 74 CIS car. I have had this noise before and tightened the screws that tighten up the rubber connectors between the box and the intakes . there is one of these that I cannot get to without going under the air box. How do I go about this. Do i need to remove the whole cis assembly to tighten those two screws?

The standard test for leaks is smoke, ether or propane.....how brave are ya?
Is there an electrical motor or sumthin around there? |

I can hear the leak with a hose in my ear an it is under the box on the passenger side

It may be time to remove the cis and install new gaskets and rubber sleeves. The cracks in the rubber sleeves in the picture don't look that good. It would also allow you to check the air box for cracks.

remove that braided hose and see if that gives you access.

Try using a 3 foot piece of vacuum line like a stethoscope and listen for a leak by prodding the hose around the area of concern.

Since the sleeves are old and cracked and since you can hear the leak there, it's a no-brainer:
Replace all 6 rubbers sleeves and install new intake gaskets under the runners. ![]()

This is not the easiest of jobs, but it is time for you to refurb your intake. I disconnect all hoses, wiring, remove the top, rubber intake boot etc. and remove the intake completely...as one assembly. (you can do a partial engine drop, if you want more clearance, but it is not required)Once you get it on the bench, it's much easier to swap out all the gaskets, sleeves, clean/test the injectors and basically refurb all components as req'd. Your sleeves are all age/heat cracked and you can hear a leak, which probably means that your engine is tuned to compensate for the extra intake air...............it's time to bite the bullet and do it. Frosty beverages will help.
