fly away doors
help -
my doors take on a mind of their own and fly all the way open with the slightst of persuassion and is even worse if parked on a decline. Apart from the door dings, I am concerned about the possible distortion on my doors where the door stays are fastened. My question: If I replace the door stays, will the birds be grounded or do I need the reinforcement kit also in order to give the doors some interval stopping. There is no real damage to the doors as of yet, so if I can get away with just the door stays, I would like to do just that. Thanks Adam |

If you have no damage yet, just put new ones in and be done. Just don't let your door swing open if you can think about it, it may save a repair down the road.

thanks for the reply -
I know that i've got to do the new stays, but will they create interval stops? I'm not as worried about the drivers side, but the passengers don't always have the same level of caution ;-) thanks |

Adam!
I just replaced both of the door stays on my 86' 911 cab. You will definately have two interval stops to keep the door open. Good Luck!

Huey - thanks - that's the answer I was looking for! Do you have any helpful hints, or is it as straightforward as it looks?

You can cheat by just undoing the front lower corner and placing your hand up through the speaker cutout in the sheetmetal to get to the old stop and replacing it with a new one. You just have to hold it in place from the inside.
