Starter Issue on 69

Morning Folks!

I am having some issues with the starter on my 69. To start off I replaced both the starter and solenoid two years ago. Currently, the starter functions intermittently and seems to be heat related. I have been thinking that it could be the ground or the solenoid? Anybody have something like this happen before?

Cheers and thanks

Checking/cleaning ground and positive connections is definitely the first order of business. Before you invest in a new solenoid/starter, however, run a check on your ignition switch as this is typically a failure point. If you look under the dash, you should see a yellow wire from the ignition switch--that's the wire to the solenoid--and there should be a connector where you can separate the wire from the switch side (there should also be a connector in the trunk, under the cowl, where the wires from the ignition enter the trunk area where the yellow wire can be separated.) The next time you have a no-start problem, disconnect the yellow wire and touch a hot lead jumper to the end of the yellow wire that goes to the solenoid. If the starter engages with the jumper, your ignition switch is suspect.

Depending on the rebuilder, they may have neglected to repalce or service the solenoid. Old gunky grease.....
