Fuel Gauge Issue

Fuel gauge is pegged at full if connected to tank gauge or not. Any ideas or previous experience? TIA Jim

It may be a bad ground or a bad sending unit. How does your oil level gauge read?

Gauge is pegged full whether or not it is connected to sending unit, oil gauge is ok.

My vote is bad sending unit. Just for a quick check, unplug the sending unit and measure the resistance between the sending unit terminals and ground.

Again, the gauge is pegged even when disconnected from sending unit on fuel tank, so that elminates the sending unit. Correct? Gauges were rebuilt, wiring connections to gauge checked, at a loss right now as to what the problem could be. Thought about disassembling the connector to see if there could be a short in it. Just putting the question out there to see if anyone has had this problem. Jim

FWIW, my fuel gauge will occasionally peg to the full mark, a tap on the glass usually frees the needle. Dunno if that's your issue as your gauges have been rebuilt, but it works for me.

My bad, There has been some shorts identified inside the gauge itself. I had a new one like that. I can't find the thread right now that has pictures.

Fuel gauge stays at half-full

Check the connector behind the gauge itself, becarefull not to short it on metal. I bet it is the ground. even if it looks good clean all contacts and squeeze the contacts so they will fit snugly.

If that does not work, try to re-flow the solder joints. This cured my stuck gauge.
