Oil suggestion

I have a friend that wants to do an oil change at my place in the up coming weeks. He just moved up to the colder climate and was looking for some input on what to run for oil.

The car is a high mileage (120K 87 911) car and he will not be driving it in the winter but will be starting it from time to time.

We are in NH, he is currently running conventional oil but is not against going with synthetic.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time

Brendon

Brad Penn - to make it simple

best not to start the car if it will not be driven; just make sure the tank is full of newly purchased fuel with Stabil added and put it on a battery maintainer

Check the ultimate oil thread: Ultimate Motor Oil Thread or Why we hate CJ4/SM oils

Cliff notes: 20W-50 or 15W-40. Swepco, Brad Penn or Valvoline VR-1.

From the '84 Owners manual:

But do be aware that if it has an API SL/SM/SN certification, it may not have enought ZDDP for your flat tappets.

Hi,

Search here can sometimes be tricy due t the large volume of posts. I often have to try several keyword combinations to have success finding the information I need.

Something to keep in mind is that most problems with htese cars have been discussed and with a "proper" search, you will turn up a weath of knowledge.

Some times the best way to do your search is to do what yo did here, just ask the question and wait for someone like me to post the answer or the leads to the answer you need.
