Which Torsion bars?

Hi,

Firstly, I'm curious to know what brand T-Bars are available out there in aftermarket-land and which are most recommended, in terms of quality and performance.

What size would you recommend for mainly street use and possibly, occassional track use.

Secondly, anyone know who makes quality REMOVABLE Roll Bars/Hoops for Cabriolet application, in Melbourne Australia?

Finally, is upgrading to turbo tie rods a simple DIY job? Does it REALLY make that much difference to steering response & accuracy? Once fitted, I would think that the front end would need precision alignment to get full benefit, right?

Sander Engineering bars are what Bruce Anderson recommends.

Garage
Currently running:
- 22/29 t-bars
- turbo tie-rod ends (power barz - the other guys)
- Bilsteins (HD)
- rack spacers
- new bushings all around
- lowered fender height at 24.5" all ends
- proper alignment and corner balance.

Car handles much better than stock on track while not too harsh for fun on the street. Not sure I would want to drive 8 hours straight for long trip but very pelased with setup.

Those are them. I run 21/30mm, with 22/22 swaybars. I'm looking forward to an eight-hour drive to Thunderhill on them in five days. My wife, however, is not in love with them.

If you decide to get them, I've got a pretty cheap source. Email me at:

Merv,
Run an archive search on 'Melbourne' - there are some very knowledgeable local guys contributing to this list from around the Yarra. Should be able to help you with local sources.

The turbo tie rods really work. If you think you current steering is direct and precise, be prepared for a nice shock when you get 'em in. Its a DIY job IF you have the secret tool [heh, heh]

Full alignment required after they are installed. You car was delivered at euro-spec ride height, but think about checking this, and corner balancing, and a touch of negative camber if you're feeling sporty.

The real answer depends on how you want to use the car, which is set up fairly well for agressive street driving. If the shocks are stock, upgrade to Bilstien sports [green]. Upgrade wheels to 7&8/16 Fuchs, and 225/50 and 245/45 tires - really makes a difference. You can spend a lot for little return, so don't chase the small gains unless you really need 'em.

If track performance is important, then the game changes and the sky is the limit. Things like stiffer torsion rods and sways really work, but are a significant trade-off against street driveability. Your choice.

Thanks for all your input.

I am actually looking at doing the turbo tie rod upgrade, as well as my torsion bars (22/29mm T's and 22/22mm Adjust Sways).

I am running 9x11x18" rims, 285/30 rear and 225/40 front, KONI Sport Adjustable Shocks all round, negative camber and has been totally corner balanced. The ride is much improved over the factory 930 setup.

My car has been slightly lowered because the 18" rims increased the ride height dramatically. I am still not 100% happy with the ride height and I was told that I need stiffer torsion bars so I can lower it further.

Is this true?
