Porsche Crest AIR VS. GT Racing

Ok, I have the funds but could use some direction from those who know.

I will be buying in the next day or two, a bunch of 'glass for my 914/6 to GT conversion. These parts include lids, bumpers, valance and rocker covers. The price difference between AIR and GT Racing is about $800 (GT being the more expensive). Is the quality really that much better. For the difference, I could almost buy the steel flares.

I know alot of you 911 guys have used 'glass and wanted to hear your opininions.

TIA

No personal experience (yet), but a couple of guys with lots of fiberglass experience I've asked use only GT racing. Main reason? It fits.

I can give you my limited experience. AIR ducktail was incorrect shape, and didn't have a chance of fitting. Instant boat anchor!!! GT Racing ducktail fit well with a few minors adjustments (and it's still on the car). I'd get more testamony from as many people as possible. -Doug

I would avoid the AIR stuff like the plague, My friend bought a uninstalled 935 Kit from a fellow, and the stuff is crap, when wee installed the front fenders they actuall pointed upwards, so we have to reworkthe fenders, and just about every other part.

On the other hand I am redoing my car using GT racing parts, and MIRACLES!!!!, the stuff fits

3 for : 3 against GTRacing

Why go with that other company? I've never really heard of them before and their website leaves a little to be desired. They don't even have pictures of their products. Tell me more.

Jack, I emailed Peter, I'll wait fro his reply before I do anything. at the very least, I'll buy some hardware from them and maybe an engine cover as I sitll haven't finished the last one I attempted to build.

Thanks for the input,

Dave,

I had a successful transaction with Peter at Rennspeed. I bought a door from him and it arrived as stated.

As for the 914-6 GT glass parts I think your decision will be very easy once you speak to the owner of GT Racing. I was in the market for some of the same 914-6 GT stuff awhile back and I talked to the owner of GT Racing (forgot his name) and he told me flat out that his 914 molds were worn out and he actually dissueded me from buying from him! He gave me the impression that he didn't sell too many of the 914 parts anymore and it was no longer his focus to maintain the molds. Go figure.

I did not buy the parts from Rennspeed so I cannot comment on those (project on hold).

I bought a RS front bumper and Ducktail from GT and was happy with them, but recently i bought front fenders from Hank and the only real problem i have is the door to fender gap. It is huge and is taking alot more work to fit up right. The surface quality is fantastic but it seems like he cut in the wrong place or something.

My $.02

I bought front and rear RSR bumpers and a Carrera tail base from Peter. Parts are great, so as his price.

Thanks for the info orbmedia, I'll call Hank again and ask him about his molds. I got a reply from Peter "http://www.wholesaler-usa.com/rennspeed/14prtsmn.htm " and he included some pictures. From what I can tell, they look ok. If I were only spending a hundred or two, I wouldn't worry, but anythink over a thousand scares me. I don't have the funds to buy twice, and I want the best for my money. I am also hoping to install these myself to save money for when the car goes into the body shop.

I'll talk to Peter and hand some more to get a feel for what they offer. I guess, I'll not go to AIR, from what I hear, they're not what I'm looking for.

Thanks all,
