"Carrera RS" Book
A vendor at Sebring had 2 copies of a hardcover book entitled 'Carrera RS' in English with slipcases (by Gruber and Konradsheim I think?). I was tempted to buy one at $150 but wasn't really sure if these were out-of-print or maybe available at less cost somewhere else. Anybody know the value of this book? Thanks. -- Curt

Curt, that's about the right price for a new book. I've got one back-ordered from PP right now.

Yeah, Curt, that's a good price for a book I'm sure you will reference many times. It's the best book on the subject by far - only 3,000 numbered copies printed in 1992.

That is a very nice collectable book. I got mine from Bill Block of the 356 registry. He has a HUGE collection of Porsche books for sale....most I've ever seen.

Confirm Authors?
Can you confirm the authors' names for me? The book sounds great, I'd like to search one out. Thanks for the tip!

$149 at motorbooks.com
Ouch. I ordered one, though.
Here's the link. You have to enter "Carrera RS" (type the quotes in, too) into the search field to find the book. From the list, it's the book with the $149 pricetag. ![]()

It is Dr.'s Gruber and Konradsheim. I thought I knew something about the Carrera RS, having read Starkey's R-RS-RSR, Excellence Was Expected, test reports, etc., etc. over the past 20 years or so. After spending a few hours reading 'Carrera RS' I realized I knew nothing. Absolutely nothing. A few tidbits:
Porsche produced three 1973 2.7S 911's but they never made it to a dealer's showroom. Same as a 2.4S except for rear flares and 7 inch rear wheels. No ducktail. There was even an advertising campaign ready to go! The most popular color for the Carrera RS - by far - was light yellow!! Followed by GP white w/ blue, GP white w/red, and light ivory. RS #911 360 1357 and #911 360 1411 had 2.9 liter motors and Sportomatic trannys!! One of the 2.7S models had fire-engine red Glasurit exterior with paisley upholstery on the seats and door panels (photos included). The entire book is filled with this kind of stuff. -- Curt |

Curt? Curt???? One hundred and fifty smackers for a BOOK? I spent a LOT less than that for a 1st edition copy of "Excellence Was Expected"...AND...it was leather covered, in the same leather color used in MY car. AND inside the cover, a certificate..signed by the author, certifying that my personal copy was #31. Curt? My point? I'd have NEVER paid 150 smackers for a book about a specific Porsche model I knew I hadn't a prayer of ever owning. 3,000 copies? $150 each? Whatever. I just got an e-mail describing a property that rents for $200 per year. Alas, that's per square foot. In the USA, 'tis the market that sets the price. At least so far...

I have seen this book in an autobook store as well, there are still copies available. (Maybe not after this thread).
![]() I'm tempted to buy it, but trying to control impulse-spending on books so that I can buy the car (or a house) eventually. ![]()

Hey Paul,
Who knows, maybe they will do a book ABOUT the RS book someday. They do have serial numbers you know? Mine's 0667/3000!! 10 years from now they'll be selling for $1000 on eBay. ![]() BTW, it was worth all of $150 to learn that light yellow was the most popular RS color. ![]() |

Paul, price is pretty steep. But the price looks like it's climbing.
If you look at the book/poster ad in Pano/Excellence. Make Big Daddy Rich the RS Book is the first one on the list. $295 I'm hoping that it has some close ups for my Carrera 3.0 RS wannabe project.

Cary,
I don't think there's anything on the Carrera 3.0 RS. However, Starkey's R-RS-RSR has a chapter on the 3.0. You might want to try that. -- Curt |

Curt;
The blurb at Motorbooks.com suggests the book also includes information on the precursors to the RS. Does it have any information on ST's?

Curt, because my car is only going to be a wannabe. The book should give my enough information and ideas. Thanks ........
