Some searching on this site will uncover this topic being discussed many times. It's a great resource and take the time to try different key words for the search.

One theme for SC's that will come up often is the best way to improve the performance is to leave the engine alone and concentrate on the weight of the car - there are a number things you can do to strip out almost 70kg and that does make a big difference.

By the way - there is also an Australia/NZ regional forum here where you will find a lot of Australian based members.

Good luck - I have an 83 SC with US spec engine and it performs just fine!

Keep buying parts to make it look older.

I'll elaborate my answer a bit.
Porsche only started using the DME in 84 I believe. (digital engine managment came with the 3.2 engines)
Cars that do not have the Bosch DME cannot be chipped simply because they don't use a chip to begin with.

Here is the Australian site, not up to the US site though. New Zealand / Australia - Pelican Parts Technical BBS
I am from Adelaide with a '89 3.2 Carrera and love driving it almost every day.
Good luck securing your SC.
