Changing the oil in a 935

Obviously kidding here, I did however get a great opportunity to view some of the cars going to Rennsport. I bro-in-law works for Porsche and allowed me to come take a look when they made a stop in Houston before transporting to Cali.

These cars came the the Porsche museum in Germany. They were wonderfully dirty, like they had just come from the track. The smells, paint chips, taped instructions on dash were still present.

I loved the 917-16. I is a really wide beast of a car.

I hope you enjoy the pics.

Absolutely stunning. Lucky dog.

You mean your brother used to work at Porsche if that is your brother and that is a Peter Sellers salute.

Pic sitting in the GT1 (properly pronounced "gay tee eins") reminds me of my brother-in-law in Charlotte. Works at a shipping company and one of the big-shot NASCAR driver cars was being shipped to Europe for some expo. He sat in the driver's seat and needed people to pull him out because he was stuck.

Dirty cars from actual race dirt are way cool. So the GT1 had LeMans debris on it from 1998? That is awesome. Hendricks Motorsports, near the Charlotte Motor (Lowe's) Speedway, has four/five cars from some guy named Jimmie Johnson that won some races (so they say) and those cars were covered with bugs, dirt and competitor "kiss" marks from the races. No better way to display them.

Great pics, thanks. I wish you had more of the 961, I think there were only 2 of those ever built. I saw the 16 @ RR3, so I'm bored with that.

Can't wait until next week!

This is just too much to take in for one day.

In casual circles, this one would be called a "spinner", not a "stroker"

Who doesn't? They are just fashion. I notice no difference in braking capacity when driving to Best Buy in my SC. Silly Germans.

Some of the cars went straight to cali from Germany. I thought the 917 was coming to houston by my BIL says it went to cali first.

I wasn't aware that they actually put the flat 16 engine into a car during the last 20-30 years. I thought that it just sat on a stand in the museum. It would be cool to see how it sounds.

Mark Donohue even drove it. Said it was terrible or something to that effect. The engine was just too long and heavy for the power. The turbo was much better once the turbo lag and things were sorted out (this was uncharted territory since throttle response doesn't matter in airplanes or trucks).

I should have taken a picture of the guy in the reflective vest giving a wave. He was chosen to be the "driver" because of his "dwarfiness". His really short legs allow quicker in and out.

I think were will be 14 cars from the museum, 11 stopped in H-town.

My BIL does have one of the best jobs. He gets to go to the Pcar factory a couple times a year and the last time out they put him in a gt3 with a factory driver for some hot laps on the test track.

Nothing in the world like a GT1.

I had the pleasure of stumbling across a '75 RSR getting sorted at Sears Point two weeks ago in preparation of RR. Didn't get any pictures of it, but it was a beauty.

Note that I said "the last 20-30 years". I know that Donohue drove it, but I thought that the engine was taken out and put aside since then and hadn't been run. If you get to hear it at the RRIV, that will be a treat.
