windshield wiper problem
It started raining in Texas! A reminder that my wipers still don't work right, I can turn them on with the stalk switch, they just don't park. Once I timed it right and park them myself I can turn them also on with the intermittent wiper rheostat, but they do not stop, just go continuosly. (1987 Carrera 3.2)
I have taken the switch apart based upon previous posts about the wiper switch contact issues, I don't think that that is my problem. What else to check? wiper relais? replace or clean wiper motor? the park mechanism is inside the motor? |
I had a similar wiper problem on my 924s a few years back, it turned out that the grounding points were bad. Once I sanded them down and cleaned up all the electrical contacts. This took care of the issue quite well. Cleaning the motor and replacing the relays can never hurt.

yes, turning off the intermittent knob stops them, but they dont park. which grounding spots am I looking for?
If anybody had the issue with the wiper switch, if that was the problem did the intermittent switch still turn the wipers on and off??? I am not so keen on tearing everything apart without knowing where I am going with it.... |

As I recall, another member had a similar issue, due to the intermittent wiper knob not fully CCW to the "click" position. Since this does not appear to be the case in this anomaly, have you done a search on wiper parking? |

I have searched this issue on the forum, repeatedly I find the switch issue with bent contacts (John Walker says it cures 95% of non-parking wipers and intermittent problems), I tried that and had the switch apart, but no luck, I'll try the relais behind the clock. Some posts mention a park mechanism inside the motor? it supposedly can get dirty? I am not sure I understand how that works and what symptoms I get if that is the problem...

There are several fine thread on how to fix your problem.
Google all of these words: Pelican fix wiper park |
Im not sure where the grounding points are on the 911, on my 924s the wiper motor was grounded through the bolts that held it on to the car. Ill check out my 911 wiper motor when i get home this weekend but it must be grounded some where.
