Porsche replacement sunvisors vs. reproduction? Anyone seen both?
The sunvisors in my 80 911SC have degraded to the puffy stage and I wish to replace them. I noticed that the new Porsche replacements from a 964 have superceded the original parts. Performance sells a reproduction model for about $100 less than the Porsche replacements. Has anyone seen both? Are they really the same thing and just $100 less? Or is it a case of, you get what you pay for?
Thanks, Noel |

I'm happy with the reproductions.

I believe the difference between the reproduction visors and the factory SC visor, is that the factory visors are white on one side and black on the other......

White/Black = white headliner
Black/Black = black headliner They wanted the right color showing when the driver wasn't using them. |

Best thing to do other then spending over $100.00 is take the old visors off and remove the plastic. Save the frame and go to a fabric shop and pick up some foam and black leather/naygahide and sew some new ones. Use the frame for the outline and overlap by half inch.

I tried that too--it only served to prove I'd starve to death if I were a tailor.

Regarding the repro sunvisors from Performance:
NOTE: There are some companies out there selling reproduction 911 sunvisors in the $50-$60 range. It is important to note that we have investigated these repro sunvisors, and have not found them to be manufactured up to our exacting standards. As a result, we do not carry them in this catalog. The repro sunvisors do not come with any pivot brackets or clips, and they also need to be slightly modified to fit in most 911s. We recommend going with a a newer-style 964 sunvisors, or even a good used set over these reproduction visors. We used to sell these, but don't anymore because we got too many returns on them. People thought they were crap, and they also need to be modified in order to fit correctly. Perhaps they've gotten better in the past year, but last time I checked, they were garbage. They are actually made for another car (non-Porsche), and happen to be sort-of the same size as the original ones... -Wayne
