Best tool bucks I've ever spent...

I've always struggled getting engines in and out, had to call friends to come over and balance the engine etc.. Not any more.
I saw the tool that Pelican sells on eBay, bid on it and lost but Wayne started carrying it a little while back. I just got mine today and installed the engine this evening- easy. It works great, the engine feels steady, one person can roll it under the car, tighten a bolt and increase the angle to allow the trans end to slip in place and then lift the whole thing up.
Here's some photos:

I think they're 165.00 at Pelican. Worth it.

That tool is a great invention. Your engine looks awesome! What work did you do? What did you use to clean aluminum? If I didn't need it in the car, I swear I'd put it in living room. (I'm single).

Thanks, I thought about the living room thing but got out-voted.
The engine is fresh from the main-bearings out. The aluminum got glass-beaded and painted with Eastwoods clear metal finish. They say it's resistant to oil and moisture and good to 250 degrees or so. It may have been a mistake but time will tell.
Looks good now though.
I screwed up and left silicone sealant showing around the cover plate for the injection pump belt cover. Warren says it's a main source of problems with the belt and belt pulleys so I thought I'd try to seal up the area. Looks nasty. Better try to clean some of that off.

Build a better mousetrap and the world* will beat a path to your door.

Bruce, that is a thing of beauty

Into the living room in a glass box. My dream coffee table.
2.2 or a 2.4 detailed to that beauty in a glass box. The best part, my soulmate, just shakes her head.

Thanks for the kind words. I'll just be happy if the *** thing runs. I started this project in August. At least I've only got one person to blame if there is a problem. Should be running by Sunday, fingers crossed.

The guys name is Paul Wilding and he also sells a three position lift bar for the top of the engine as well. It's sweeet! Sorry, here's the best link I have:

eBay Motors item 600178081 (Ends Jan-13-02 204652 PST ) - Porsche 911 Engine Motor Body Lift Bar Tool.htm

I think there's something wrong with your engine. I don't see any oil dripping off of it.

Seriously, though, it looks great!

I'd love to get that tool myself. So many toys to buy....this is getting addictive.

I see 4 holes drilled into the top of that tool. Is that to accomidate the 4 possible positions of the oil drain plug?

I hear the guy is making a version of this tool for 964/993 also (3.6 engine).
