Removing Door panels

I broke one of the interior door handles on my car and need to replace it. How does the door panel come off to gain access to the door handle? I'm sure it's held on by those clips that come loose right after a section of door panel gets broken. I'm hoping someone can share the tip that will help me prevent that.

not sure what year car you have but on my 84 carrera there is a series of about 8 screws that need to come out
it is pretty straight forward if you look at it closely

As I remember, Screws hold on the door tops at each end, take the door tops off, that should allow you to see screws that hold on the grab handles, pop off the ball thingie that holds the pull handle, screws hold on the door pocket and there are bolts that hold the bottom of the grab handle, they are tucked way in there, easy to get out but a pain to reinstall, the panel iteself is held on by fasteners and should come out with easy pressure..careful to not pull out the inserts on the metal door panel. Speakers need to be disconnected. The interior door handles are connected to the locking mechanism by rods connected by clips...these clips may have come off or broken...If you have plastic door shields still intact, carefully remove them.....Both mine did this awhile back...Go slow and keep track of all the small parts !!

What exactly did you break? You may not need to take everything off.

I agree.

If the metal part which attaches to the swivel ball is visible, you do not need to remove the panel.

Here's a pic.

Good luck,

Gerry
