headlights and radio - 87 911
87 911 coupe.
Headlights worked the other day. Today headlights wont turn on via switch. I can temporarily engage Highbeams by holding turn signal/highbeam arm in .... AND the original radio Blaupunkt Reno? showed no data / numbers, but powers up ( no sound). Interior lights wont come on either. Sunroof/windows/mirrors are fine. Any thoughts where to start / I would have just said relay , but the radio thing is weird. |

Oh man it may be your turn signal stalk that needs servicing. try it first before buying the new part.

Yep. I was in exactly that predicament. I too could make the highs come on by holding the stalk back in the 'flash' position.
I just pulled out my switch/stalk, bent the middle 'arm/contact' up so it is firmly against the 'upper' contact (low beam position) so I can drive to work a couple of times a week in the dark. And I mean I bent it pretty good, about 15 degrees so I knew it would stay pressed aginst the other low-beam contact. I only have low beams now, but with the H4s, no problem! New switch is at the ready; just need to install it. Used ones (or if you are lucky like I was) even new ones can be found for $50-$60. |

thanks, i did have the turn signals switch replaced a few years back due to it not working. suprised it would fail. I will look tonight
The radio failing at the same time is puzzling too. 2 facts i should add - im using the passenger seat power to supply current to a video camera. I left this plugged in for about a week (oops). - the interior lights are working , nor is the insturment cluster lights |

headlight switch
the turn signal contact seem to be ok. its a slightly different format , the part was replaced about 2 years ago due to the highbeams while turning issue.
i could quite make heads or tails of the wiring diagram with bentley, need a fresh brain for that I did notice the headlight switch know rotates without stop. isnt there supposed to be a stop point left and right to control the dimming of the interior lights? can the actual light switch be the problem? the fuses all look good. im cuirous about the relatinoship to the interior lights now any thoughts? |

Yes, it is supposed to stop.
You may have a shorted contact in the back of the headlight switch.
