First 911

Hello all, I have been hanging out here for a couple of months and this is my first post. First off- what a great site!, a great community.

Trying to make a long story short....

I recently traded my 1986 280GE Gwagen for a 1984 Carrera 3.2 silver on black 110K on the clock. Straight trade no cash involved. I thought it was a pretty even trade. The car ended up needing some work which is fine I have a very good local guy here in Santa Fe. Issues were clutch, drivers window regulator and a bent rod on the accelerator in the foot box. The car is amazing, I wish I had done a PPI- 20/20 they say. It was an impulse trade and I could not be happier.

I work in the film business and am currently working in Bucharest, a day does not go by where I am not reading this forum and thinking of that 911.......(and my kids of course)....My wife too!

Thank you all

Rich

Some bad iphone pics.

Now to decide what to do with this..thoughts?

Thanks again.

Drive the heck out of it!

I often wonder if I shouldn't have just bought one where I could turn the key and go.

Very nice car!

Rich,
Welcome to Pelican
As you note this is a Great Porsche Community.

Great 911 you found. Have fun.
Join RRR PCA. We share a lot of fun events between Santa Fe and Denver.

Now is the time to do a PPI (Post-Purchase Inspection ) and establish a baseline for the maintenance you want to do.
Be sure to look at the age of the tires.
When you change tires - that might be the opportunity to move your rear 7x16s to the front and find a pair of 8x16s for the rear. You will like it.

When considering tires, consider your intended use.
You may want to source another pair of 6x16s for dedicated winter tires and have the wide wheels for summer (3-season) use.
It is snowing in our High Rockies now.

Get home (to area code 505) soon.

Best,
Grady

NICE - I traded my 996 straight across for the 86' about 2 years ago...never been happier with a car deal...never!

WTG, welcome.... time to learn a few things....like how the h&ll to check the oil (and they all use a little oil so check it often!)

owning an older 911, at least for me, has been like dating a very hot girl. She's high maintenance and drives you crazy sometimes, but when she's right....OH MY! Enjoy every good moment, I hope you have many, as nothing compares to a 911 at full song.

Congrats on your trade. It might be the way the pictures were taken but the color looks champagne to me. Also, I see a stroller in the background. I'm glad to see another dad with young children on the forum. It's not what you think of as a typical family man car, but my son's and I get plenty of entertainment out of the Porsche and I'm looking forward to a lot more as they get older. Congrats again.

Tim

Not sure the story on them- I saw a thread a while back on dating the year of the Recaro seats- I'm sure that they are from the 80's. They are kind of a pain, the belt get's caught up on the fore/aft lever- so you have to put the belt on before you shut the door---such a small price to pay.....
