Car Cover for 911 3.2

Hi Everyone:

Just purchased my first 911 today (1989 3.2 Coupe). What are the best covers to buy for these vehicles and where do you think have the best prices?

The best cover for YOUR 911 will depend on where it is parked. The best place to buy a new one is from Pelican, of course.

Used ones do come up for sale in the classifieds so that would be an option if you want to save a few bucks.

Thanks. I will be mostly parking in a non-heated garage, but would like the option of leaving it in my driveway covered. I did some searches tonight and there seams to be covers that are good against uv and also rain.

I have the silver cover from Porsche that was claimed to be water-proof/breathable but it isn't. It sheds most of the water, but lets some in, which never seems to dry. I'm not sure if there are others out there that actually do shed ALL water but this one definitely doesn't. Don't forget that when you order one specify whether you have the whale tail or not. Cheers

Most of the better outside covers use the "Stormshield" material.

I don't like car covers. However, if you insist on using one, Stormshield is a material that has a good reputation for being waterproof and keeping rain or snow off the car. Be concerned that they may also keep some moisture inside the cover which isn't all that good for the car. One unarguable benefit is that they stop casual passers by from getting an eyeful of your car, reduce damage from falling/blowing twigs and other debris and keep neighbourhood cats from jumping up and sitting on your freshly waxed or dirty, dust covered roof.

I've used this one on my Mercedes for 2 years now, every day.

It is a very good every day cover, and it's on sale!

Costco - Coverking XtremeWeave Custom Fit Car Cover

I just ordered another one for my 911 a few days ago.

For the price, it simply can't be beat. Very durable, the fit is perfect (100% custom).

It is NOT fully waterproof, though. Although it breathes very well, moisture cannot get trapped in this material.

For "price no object," IMO this is the best all around outdoor car cover:

Covercraft WeatherShield HD

I have one of those, also. It is really a remarkable material. 100% waterproof, yet 100% breatheable. Full custom fit. Very durable. I wouldn't hesitate to use this cover long term in sun, rain, snow or ice.

They are very expensive, though.

Car covers will scratch your paint if you drag it across the car. If the cover or the car is dirty then you will be sanding your surface. If you have a garage queen then for an interior cover use a tan flannel cover: soft, breaths, keeps off dust... It has now water-proofing. I don't know much about exterior covers other than you will still have moisture form under the cover and that is bad for the paint. IMO, use an exterior cover only when necessary.

IIRC, a couple of the major differentiators that make the Coverking Stormguard the top choice in my mind (which is the one from our sponsor which I bought and am very happy with), is:
1. The one from our sponsor is not a 'spray-in' waterproofing which flakes off over time, as is the Weathershield HD
2. the one from our sponsor does not have seams all over it like the Weathershield HD
3. the Weathershield was more expensive (by $30-$40)

I seem to recall that these were the major decision making points when I bought mine.

Mind you the one I bought is a premium cover, but what's a few bucks to ensure that your investment is protected as best as possible.

Now, that said, I live in Texas, and we've not had rain, so I don't have a lot of experience with how well the one I have repels water...looks like there may be feedback from others on that front. The one i bought is a Coverking Stormproof (again from Pelican.)

Expensive, but custom made to fit the turbo tail and widebody.

MAKE SURE TO GET THE SIDE MIRROR POCKETS!!! The first time you're putting the cover on in even a light wind, you'll understand why and thank yourself.

Also, get the stuff bag - its like $7, and worth every penny.

I have a thick cover that I bought from Pelican, Evo 4 material, Storm Proof, for a Porsche 911 with a whale tail. Used just a few months before I sold the car. I will let the cover go for $150 (you pay shipping). PM me if you like.

Dont rule out covers from Wal-mart, ok not as thick but its important for the car to breath and when the cover begins to wear, toss it out. I use them on my Targa, my wife,s Boxster and my son loves it for the BMW. Most of the time they are about $29.00 for our size cars. Just a thought.
